How to Enter the Woodpile Termite Nest in Grounded 2
Find the Woodpile entrance, get past the blocked roots, navigate the Termite Nest, reach the Queen, and locate Skritch and the Termite King.
Updated:
Quick Answer
The Woodpile Termite Nest is in the northern Fire Pit area, near the large park bench. The entrance is partway up the Woodpile, not at ground level.
Bring a Black Soldier Ant Buggy to chew through the blocked entrance, along with an explosive for a cracked rock farther inside.
Follow the tunnels to the Termite Queen, then use the large chamber with the glove, axe, and Sacrificial Pit opening to navigate toward Skritch or the O.G.R.R. Termite King.
Rot and Ruin Public Test Build 0.6.0
The Woodpile is one of the more confusing areas to explore in Grounded 2. The map can indicate that you have reached the Termite Nest while the actual entrance is still above you, hidden among the stacked wood. Inside, several tunnels reconnect, Spew Spores interfere with movement, and the central chamber branches toward very different objectives.
The first visit is easier when you treat it as an exploration trip rather than an attempt to defeat everything. Find the entrance, learn the main landmarks, gather accessible materials, and decide whether you have enough supplies to continue toward either boss.
The Termite Queen can also be encountered without immediately starting a fight. Her offering interaction is separate from the routes leading to Skritch and the Termite King.
Where Is the Woodpile in Grounded 2?
Head north through Brookhollow Park toward the Fire Pit. The Woodpile is beside the large bench in this area.
As you approach the stacked logs, look for openings between pieces of wood. The important distinction is height: the usable entrance is raised above the ground, so searching only around the base can leave you circling the correct location without finding a way inside.
Move up along the accessible wood until you reach the opening blocked by material that can be chewed apart.
Do not mistake a lower gap beneath the logs for the main route simply because it is closer to the map marker.
What Do You Need to Enter?
A Black Soldier Ant Buggy is a reliable choice for opening the blocked passage.
The obstruction requires an Ant Buggy’s chewing ability. A Spider Buggy cannot substitute for that interaction, even if it can reach the opening.
Before going inside, prepare for several different hazards:
- A repaired weapon and armor: Termite Workers and Soldiers are common throughout the nest.
- Healing supplies: Enemy groups and environmental effects can wear you down before you reach the deeper chambers.
- A light source: Some passages are difficult to read without one.
- An explosive: A cracked rock blocks a deeper route associated with the Termite King.
- Inventory space: Termite Parts, Chompers, Wooden Splinters, and other resources accumulate quickly.
You do not need to carry every possible crafting material into the nest. The immediate goal is to get inside with enough supplies to explore and return safely.
Getting Through the First Termite Tunnels
Once the entrance is open, continue along the tunnel into the Woodpile.
You will encounter Termite Workers before reaching some of the more dangerous chambers. These provide Termite Parts, one of the common resources used by the new equipment recipes.
Termite Soldiers are tougher and can provide Termite Chompers. Both enemy types are worth fighting when you specifically need their materials, but clearing every branch is unnecessary if your main objective is locating the central chamber.
Termites can disrupt combat with dust-related attacks. Avoid standing in the middle of several enemies while repeatedly swinging a slow weapon. Draw them into a clearer section of tunnel where you have room to block, dodge, and recover stamina.
Weapons dealing Stabbing damage can be effective against ordinary Termites. Check individual enemies with Peep when selecting elemental damage, particularly if you are using a weapon whose effectiveness varies with enemy resistance.
The tunnels contain more than just enemies. Watch for Wooden Splinters, collectible resources, and readable objects that help distinguish one passage from another.
Spew Spores and Woozy
Some chambers contain fungal growths called Spew Spores.
They release an effect that builds Woozy, making the surrounding space more dangerous to fight in.
You can destroy the growths with the appropriate harvesting tool. Clearing them reduces the environmental hazard and provides Spew Spore Chunks, which are useful for crafting.
Do not rush into a group of Termites while Woozy is already building. Clear a safe section first, let the effect subside, and continue once you can move and defend reliably.
Spew Spore Chunks are also needed for Splinter Shot ammunition and for summoning Skritch later. Collecting them as you clear the tunnels saves another harvesting trip.
If you are only exploring the nest for the first time, clearing the growths that block your route is enough. Save a more thorough cleanup for areas you intend to revisit or fight in.
How to Reach the Termite Queen
Continue deeper through the connected tunnels until you find the chamber containing the Termite Queen and nearby Termite Larvae.
Unlike the ordinary Workers and Soldiers, the Queen has an offering interaction.
You do not have to fight her to continue through the Woodpile.
Approach the Queen and interact with her to view the available gifts.
Thoughtful Gift or Thoughtless Gift?
The offering menu presents two choices with different material themes.
Thoughtful Gift uses an offering associated with Centipede materials. Its description indicates that the Queen will appreciate this gift.
Thoughtless Gift uses Spew Spore materials. Its description warns that the Queen may appreciate it less.
That distinction matters because Centipede materials require additional progression. If you have not defeated Skritch, you may not yet have what you need for the Thoughtful Gift.
By contrast, Spew Spore materials can be gathered from the growths encountered while exploring the Woodpile.
In the Rot and Ruin test build, a player who selected Thoughtless Gift received Termite Delight and the Termite Queen Gold Card. That demonstrates an obtainable result, but it does not establish that both offerings produce identical consequences.
If you specifically want to make the Thoughtful Gift, leave the Queen for now and return after collecting the required Centipede materials.
The offering interaction does not need to be completed before you can explore the other Woodpile chambers.
The Glove and Axe Chamber: Your Main Landmark
One of the most useful places inside the nest is the large chamber containing a discarded glove, an axe, and a central opening.
The objects are large enough to recognize even after approaching the chamber from another tunnel, which makes this a better navigation reference than trying to remember every similar-looking passage.
From here, your next direction depends on what you came to collect.
- Skritch: Follow the route descending toward the Sacrificial Pit.
- O.G.R.R. Termite King: Continue toward the rear passages and the cracked rock blocking the King’s route.
- Termite equipment materials: Search the surrounding tunnels for Soldiers, Workers, Wooden Splinters, and accessible Lint.
- Full Moon SCA.B 2K: Check the giant glove, near its fingers.
The SCA.B 2K locations explain the collectible’s exact position along with the other new themes around the park.
Collect Lint Before Leaving the Chamber
The discarded glove is also a useful landmark for gathering Lint.
Lint can be processed into Lint Rope, which is required for the Termite Boots.
If you plan to craft the complete Termite set, gather accessible Lint while you are already here. Returning solely for a small amount of Lint makes the equipment run longer than necessary.
You can inspect your inventory before continuing deeper. If you have filled it with ordinary materials and still intend to fight a boss, consider returning to base first rather than risking valuable drops with no remaining space.
How to Reach Skritch’s Sacrificial Pit
The Sacrificial Pit lies below the central Woodpile chamber.
Look for the large opening associated with Termites gathered around its edge. Follow the lower route into the arena.
Skritch does not begin fighting as soon as you enter. The boss is summoned through an altar interaction.
The normal summoning offering requires:
- 3 Termite Parts
- 2 Termite Larva Hides
- 2 Spew Spore Chunks
You can collect those resources while exploring the nest, although the larvae and spores may require additional time to gather.
Do not activate the altar while your equipment is damaged or your healing supplies are nearly exhausted. Skritch is a Tier IV encounter with multiple phases, additional Termites, and a mechanic that allows it to recover health.
Before starting, clear the Spew Spores around the arena so they do not interfere with your movement.
For the boss’s resistances, Gut weak point, stun timing, larva-healing mechanic, and rewards, use the Skritch Centipede Boss strategy.
If you are visiting the nest primarily to explore, reaching the Sacrificial Pit is a reasonable stopping point. You can mark the route and return when you are ready for the fight.
How to Reach the O.G.R.R. Termite King
The O.G.R.R. Termite King is reached through a different part of the Woodpile.
From the large central chamber, continue exploring the rear passages rather than descending into Skritch’s Sacrificial Pit.
Watch for a cracked rock blocking a tunnel. This obstruction needs an explosive to remove.
Beyond it, the route leads toward the King’s chamber.
The King is a separate encounter from Skritch. Its movement, ranged attacks, and O.G.R.R. properties require their own preparation, but you do not need to summon Skritch to fight it.
Defeating the King provides Termite King Carapaces, which are required for the new armor and Splinter Cannon.
The Termite Armor and Splinter Cannon guide covers the King’s combat behavior, the bench-side shortcut for repeat kills, and the exact Carapace requirements.
If the cracked rock is still intact and you have no explosive, stop searching for a way around the same obstruction. Return with a bomb instead of spending your remaining supplies in nearby passages.
What Materials Should You Collect on Your First Visit?
The Woodpile contains several resources used by the new Tier IV equipment.
You do not need a separate trip for every ingredient, but there is a difference between useful incidental gathering and trying to leave with everything at once.
Prioritize materials that are specific to the nest:
- Termite Parts: Commonly obtained from Termites.
- Termite Chompers: Obtained from Termite Soldiers.
- Wooden Splinters: Found throughout the Woodpile.
- Spew Spore Chunks: Collected from the hazardous spore growths.
- Termite Larva Hides: Useful when preparing the Skritch offering.
- Termite King Carapaces: Obtained from the O.G.R.R. Termite King.
The other crafting materials needed for the new equipment include Pupa Leather, Lint Rope, and Rust. You may already have some of these in storage outside the Woodpile.
For the exact quantities needed to craft all three armor pieces and the Cannon, follow the Termite equipment recipes.
It is often better to return home with a useful collection of nest-specific materials than to remain inside until your armor breaks or the inventory is filled with items you did not intend to gather.
How to Get Out of the Woodpile Without Losing Your Route
The Termite Nest becomes easier to navigate once you recognize the central glove-and-axe chamber.
Use that chamber as a reference when returning from the Queen, Sacrificial Pit, or King passages. The tunnels may look similar, but the central opening and oversized objects provide recognizable landmarks.
There is also an alternate exit associated with the Termite King chamber that leads toward the rear of the park bench. This is particularly useful after you have defeated the King and want a shorter return trip on subsequent visits.
If you have not discovered that passage, retrace the tunnel you used to enter rather than wandering into unfamiliar branches while carrying valuable materials.
On a first visit, the most useful outcome is usually:
- Open the raised Woodpile entrance with your Ant Buggy.
- Clear enough Spew Spores to move safely.
- Reach the Termite Queen and inspect the offering choices.
- Identify the glove-and-axe chamber.
- Locate the routes toward Skritch and the Termite King.
- Return with the resources you need for your next objective.
Once these landmarks are familiar, you can make separate, shorter trips for the King, Skritch, Queen offering, or equipment materials instead of repeating a full exploration of the nest each time.
