How to Get the Diving Suit in Grounded 2
Unlock the full Grounded 2 Diving Suit, get the Helmet, Chestplate and Boots, prepare 4,500 Raw Science and 9 Quartz Glass, then enter the Abyss.

Quick Answer
To get the full Diving Suit in Grounded 2, I unlock and craft all three pieces:
Diving Helmet
Diving Suit Chestplate
Diving Boots
Their recipes come from the Aquatic Optical Disc progression, and the three unlocks cost 4,500 Raw Science in total.
The full set also uses 9 Quartz Glass.
Once all three pieces are crafted, I equip the Helmet + Chestplate + Boots at the same time and return to the Diving Deck. The complete equipped set is what gets me through the Diving Suit gate and into the Abyss.
The Diving Suit is not just better Pond armor.
It is a progression requirement.
I could reach the Diving Deck long before I could open it, so swimming back to the door with a better oxygen setup did not solve anything. Once the gate asked for the Diving Suit, I stopped looking for another entrance and finished the three-piece set instead.
How to Unlock the Diving Suit in Grounded 2
The Diving Suit consists of:
- Diving Helmet
- Diving Suit Chestplate
- Diving Boots
The recipes are tied to the Aquatic Optical Discs found through the Pond progression.
That gives me an important distinction when one piece is missing.
If the recipe itself is absent, I am still dealing with an unlock problem.
If the recipe is already available but I cannot craft the piece, I have a material problem.
I check that before starting another long resource run.
Find the Aquatic Optical Discs First
I do not begin a large Quartz Glass farm until all three Diving recipes are available.
The earlier Pond routes let me recover the Aquatic Optical Discs needed to open the Diving Gear purchases.
If I can buy two pieces but the third one is still absent, I return to the Aquatic Optical Disc guide and finish that progression.
Collecting more Quartz Glass does not unlock a missing recipe.
That distinction saves me from stocking materials for a piece I cannot yet buy.
Save 4,500 Raw Science for the Full Set
Unlocking all three Diving pieces costs:
4,500 Raw Science total
Once the Diving Deck becomes my next progression gate, I reserve that amount instead of spending Raw Science on convenience unlocks.
The Chestplate alone shows why this matters.
There are plenty of useful things I could buy first, but I ask whether that purchase removes the blocker in front of me.
A required tool upgrade can justify delaying one Diving piece.
A convenience upgrade usually cannot.
The same applies when I am deciding between the suit and the Toe Biter Buggy.
The Buggy can improve repeated underwater travel.
The Diving Suit opens the progression gate.
When Raw Science is limited, I finish the gate first.
How Much Quartz Glass the Diving Suit Needs
The complete three-piece Diving Suit uses:
9 Quartz Glass
I treat those nine pieces as one material target.
Instead of making a little Glass, crafting one armor piece, then discovering that I need another large Quartz run, I finish the batch before my final return to the Diving Deck.
The full production route is in the Grounded 2 Quartz Glass Guide.
For this project, the important number is:
9 Quartz Glass ready
Each Quartz Glass also consumes one Horsetail Stem, so producing all nine means I am committing at least:
9 Horsetail Stems
to the Glass portion of the suit.
If Horsetail becomes the bottleneck, I switch to the Horsetail Stem Guide.
I do not repeat those two resource routes here because the Diving Suit problem is deciding what I need for the complete set, not where every ingredient grows.
What Each Diving Suit Piece Does
The three pieces are all required at the Diving Deck, but they do not behave the same way during ordinary Pond exploration.
Diving Helmet
The Diving Helmet carries:
Master Diver
I treat the Helmet differently from early underwater equipment such as the Gill Tube.
The Gill Tube helps me reach deeper Pond content before the full Diving Suit is finished.
The Diving Helmet is part of the actual late underwater progression set.
Diving Suit Chestplate
The Diving Suit Chestplate carries:
Chill Reduction
That matters as deeper underwater routes begin introducing more environmental pressure.
The Chestplate can therefore improve a dive immediately, but owning it alone does not satisfy the Diving Deck.
I still need the Helmet and Boots.
Diving Boots
The Diving Boots have the most noticeable effect on movement.
They counter buoyancy and help keep me near the bottom.
That is useful when I deliberately want to stay on the floor of an underwater route.
The tradeoff is that I do not swim normally while wearing them. Movement becomes more weighted and relies on limited underwater jumping rather than the normal free-swimming behavior.
For bottom-focused exploration, that can be exactly what I want.
For ordinary Pond travel, it may not be.
Do I Need the Full Diving Suit for Normal Pond Exploration?
No.
I can explore much of the Pond before finishing the complete set.
Earlier equipment such as the Gill Tube helps me extend underwater trips while I am still gathering resources and finding Optical Discs.
Koi equipment can also remain useful during this phase.
The distinction I use is:
Gill Tube / Koi gear help me explore the Pond.
Diving Helmet + Chestplate + Boots open the Diving Deck.
A useful underwater loadout is not automatically the specific loadout required by the story gate.
When I Remove the Diving Boots
Crafting the full set does not mean I permanently wear all three pieces during every underwater trip.
The Boots solve a specific problem: buoyancy.
If I want to remain close to the bottom, I wear them.
If I want ordinary swimming freedom and easier vertical movement, I may remove them.
That also matters with the Toe Biter Buggy.
When I wear the Diving Boots while riding the Buggy underwater, their weighted behavior can pull the mount toward the bottom.
If I want the Buggy to move normally through the water, I check whether the Boots are still equipped before assuming something is wrong with the mount.
Craft All Three Pieces Before Returning to the Diving Deck
Once all three recipes are unlocked, I finish the entire suit before making the return trip.
I want:
- Diving Helmet — crafted
- Diving Suit Chestplate — crafted
- Diving Boots — crafted
I also repair the pieces before committing to the deeper route.
There is no benefit in reaching the Diving Deck with two completed pieces and the third still waiting on materials.
I finish the project at base, then make one progression dive.
Equip the Full Diving Suit Before Opening the Door
This is the final check that is easy to overlook.
Crafting all three pieces is not enough if one of them is sitting in my inventory.
Before using the Diving Deck door, I equip:
Diving Helmet + Diving Suit Chestplate + Diving Boots
This matters because I may have switched to a different helmet or other Pond gear during the approach.
Before touching the door, I check the three slots rather than immediately assuming the progression gate is bugged.
Why the Diving Deck Still Will Not Open
If the Diving Deck rejects me, I check the suit itself before looking for another entrance.
One Diving recipe is still missing
I am not finished with the Aquatic Optical Discs.
I unlocked all three but cannot craft one piece
I check the missing materials.
If Quartz Glass is the problem, I use the Quartz Glass Guide.
I crafted all three pieces but the door still rejects me
I check my equipment slots.
One of the three Diving pieces may still be in my inventory instead of equipped.
I changed gear during the swim to the Diving Deck
I put the full Diving set back on before interacting with the door.
The gate checks the complete Diving Suit, not whether I have previously crafted it.
What Emergency Repair Does
If I upgrade the Diving Suit through the Sleek path, I can get:
Emergency Repair
Emergency Repair gives the suit a chance to repair itself when I block attacks.
I treat that as durability support during longer combat-heavy dives.
I do not treat it as:
- extra oxygen;
- healing;
- a movement effect;
- a replacement for repairing damaged equipment before leaving.
The practical advantage is simply that defensive play can help reduce armor wear over a long route.
I still repair the set before entering the Abyss rather than relying on the effect to rescue equipment that already started in poor condition.
My Final Diving Suit Checklist
Before returning to the Diving Deck, I want all of these finished:
- all three Diving Suit recipes unlocked;
- 4,500 Raw Science available or already spent on the three unlocks;
- 9 Quartz Glass prepared for the full set;
- Diving Helmet crafted;
- Diving Suit Chestplate crafted;
- Diving Boots crafted;
- all three pieces repaired;
- all three pieces equipped.
At that point, the Diving Suit project is complete.
I return to the Diving Deck and use the full set to pass the equipment gate.
What happens beyond the door is a different problem.
For navigation, cables, landmarks, deeper combat and the route through the new area, I continue with the Grounded 2 Into the Abyss Guide.
