How to Get Quartz Glass in Grounded 2
Get Quartz Glass by mining Phantom Quartz under Gnarly Bark, processing it into Crushed Quartz, unlocking the Kiln, and adding Horsetail Stem.

Quick Answer
To get Quartz Glass in Grounded 2, I mine Phantom Quartz in the cave beneath Gnarly Bark, process it into Crushed Quartz with the Quern, unlock and build the Kiln, then craft each Quartz Glass with:
2 Crushed Quartz + 1 Horsetail Stem
I use the blue paper boat beside Gnarly Bark as my landmark for the Phantom Quartz cave and bring a Tier 3 Hammer to break the large nodes.
If Quartz Glass is still locked, I work through the unlock chain instead of farming more ore:
Phantom Quartz → Quern → Crushed Quartz → Fire Brick → Kiln → Quartz Glass
Quartz Glass is not a material I can make immediately after finding Phantom Quartz.
The first Quartz only starts the chain.
I still need to process it, analyze the intermediate materials and unlock the Kiln before the final recipe becomes available.
Once those steps are complete, making more Quartz Glass becomes a predictable resource run rather than another progression puzzle.
Where to Find Phantom Quartz
The Phantom Quartz location I use is underneath Gnarly Bark.
My easiest landmark is the blue paper boat beside the water at the base of the tree.
The cave entrance is close to that boat.
From there, I enter the lower cave and continue into the flooded sections.
The route can contain enemies including:
- Diving Bell Spiders;
- Toe Biters;
- Earwigs;
- other creatures in the lower Gnarly Bark caverns.
If my underwater gear is already struggling before I start mining, I improve that setup first.
This is not a particularly useful farming trip if I can reach the Quartz but cannot safely stay in the cave long enough to collect it.
Bring a Tier 3 Hammer
The large Phantom Quartz formations require a:
Tier 3 Hammer
I check the hammer before leaving for Gnarly Bark.
Reaching the correct cave with a weaker tool only turns the trip into reconnaissance.
A large Phantom Quartz node gives me roughly 3 Quartz, and there are multiple formations through the cave and its side passages.
That concentration is why I return here when I need Quartz in quantity instead of chasing isolated deposits elsewhere.
Analyze Phantom Quartz to Unlock the Quern
After bringing home my first Phantom Quartz, I take it to a Resource Analyzer.
Analyzing it unlocks the next part of the production chain:
- Quern
- Crushed Quartz
The Quern is the first workstation I need.
Raw Phantom Quartz does not go directly into the final Quartz Glass recipe.
Make Crushed Quartz in the Quern
I put Phantom Quartz into the Quern and process it into Crushed Quartz.
When the first Crushed Quartz finishes, I keep some aside for the Resource Analyzer.
That analysis is important because Crushed Quartz is not only an ingredient.
It also advances the crafting chain.
Analyze Crushed Quartz to Unlock Fire Brick
Analyzing Crushed Quartz unlocks:
Fire Brick
Fire Brick is made in the Oven with:
Clay + Crushed Quartz
I make enough to produce my first Fire Brick, then analyze that brick before committing most of my Quartz stock to brick production.
That order matters because the next unlock is the one I actually need for Quartz Glass.
Analyze a Fire Brick to Unlock the Kiln
After my first Fire Brick is complete, I analyze it.
That unlocks:
- Kiln
- Quartz Glass
- marine building options
At this point the Quartz Glass recipe can be unlocked even if I still do not have enough materials to build the Kiln itself.
That distinction is useful.
If Quartz Glass appears in progression but I cannot craft it yet, I check the Kiln rather than returning immediately to Phantom Quartz.
Build the Kiln
The Kiln is the final workstation required for Quartz Glass.
Its build includes later-game materials such as:
- 8 Fire Bricks
- 5 EverChar Coal Chunks
- 3 Green Shield Bug Parts
- the other materials shown in the Kiln recipe
If the Kiln is unlocked but one of those materials is missing, Quartz is no longer my immediate problem.
I finish the missing Kiln component first.
That prevents me from returning to Gnarly Bark with a large Quartz stock while the actual progression gate is somewhere else.
Quartz Glass Recipe
Once the Kiln is built, each Quartz Glass requires:
2 Crushed Quartz + 1 Horsetail Stem
This is the final production loop I use:
mine Phantom Quartz → Quern → Crushed Quartz → Kiln → Quartz Glass
The Fire Brick stage matters for unlocking and building the Kiln, but once that workstation is finished I no longer convert every batch of Crushed Quartz into bricks.
I preserve enough for the Glass I actually need.
If Horsetail is the material holding up production, I switch to the Grounded 2 Horsetail Stem Guide rather than turning the Phantom Quartz run into a second farming route.
Do Not Turn All Crushed Quartz Into Fire Bricks
This is the easiest way I found to create an unnecessary Quartz shortage.
Fire Brick consumes processed Quartz.
Quartz Glass also consumes processed Quartz.
While I am still working toward the Kiln, Fire Bricks take priority because I need them to unlock and build the workstation.
After the Kiln is ready, my priority changes.
If Quartz Glass is the current goal, I keep the required Crushed Quartz for Glass instead of automatically sending every batch into Fire Brick production.
For a large marine construction project, I may deliberately farm extra Quartz for both jobs.
For progression, I usually finish the required Glass first.
How Much Quartz Glass Do I Need for the Diving Suit?
The full Diving Suit requires:
9 Quartz Glass
Because each Quartz Glass uses two Crushed Quartz and one Horsetail Stem, those nine pieces require at least:
18 Crushed Quartz + 9 Horsetail Stems
That is the production target I use when the Diving Suit is my next major progression gate.
I finish all nine Glass before spending the same materials on optional marine building pieces.
Once the Glass is ready, I return to the Diving Suit guide for the remaining armor requirements.
How Much Phantom Quartz Should I Farm?
I base the amount on what I am making next.
If I only need to unlock the chain, I do not need to strip every Quartz node in the cave.
If I am making the Diving Suit, I plan around the 9 Quartz Glass requirement.
If I am also building the Kiln from scratch, I remember that some Crushed Quartz will be consumed through the Fire Brick stage before I can dedicate the remaining stock to Glass.
For large underwater construction projects, I farm much more aggressively because Fire Brick and Quartz Glass can both compete for the same processed Quartz.
The useful stopping point is when the current project is funded.
More Phantom Quartz does not help if the next missing component is Horsetail, Coal or a Green Shield Bug Part.
Why Is Quartz Glass Still Locked?
If Quartz Glass does not appear, I trace the production chain backward.
Quartz Glass is unlocked but I cannot craft it
I check whether I have actually built the Kiln.
The Kiln is still locked
I make and analyze a Fire Brick.
Fire Brick is still locked
I make and analyze Crushed Quartz.
I cannot make Crushed Quartz
I analyze Phantom Quartz and make sure the Quern is unlocked.
I found Phantom Quartz but cannot break it
I need a Tier 3 Hammer.
I have the Kiln but the recipe is missing a material
Each Quartz Glass needs:
2 Crushed Quartz + 1 Horsetail Stem
At that point I check which of those two ingredients is actually missing.
My Quartz Glass Farming Route
Once everything is unlocked, my repeat run is straightforward.
I head to the blue paper boat at Gnarly Bark with a Tier 3 Hammer.
I enter the lower cave, mine the Phantom Quartz formations I need, and return with enough Quartz for the current project.
At base, I keep the Quern processing Phantom Quartz into Crushed Quartz.
After the Kiln is already built, I reserve that Crushed Quartz for Glass rather than automatically converting it into more Fire Bricks.
Then I combine:
2 Crushed Quartz + 1 Horsetail Stem
in the Kiln until the current requirement is complete.
For the Diving Suit, that stopping point is 9 Quartz Glass.
Once those nine pieces are ready, another Quartz run is no longer the thing moving the Abyss progression forward.
