Chapter 8 Walkthrough – Land of Turmoil
Cross Liberl during the Orbal Shutdown, deliver Zero Field Generators, rescue Jenis Royal Academy, defend Grancel, and reach Haken Gate.
Updated:
Quick Answer
Start at the Bose Bracer Guild, activate the first Zero Field Generator, then carry the remaining units across Liberl to restore Guild communications. Travel overland through the remaining regions, handle the Jenis Royal Academy attack when it interrupts the route, and keep moving toward Grancel once Society airships head for the capital. After the castle crisis, escort Kloe to Haken Gate to finish Chapter 8.
The Aureole does not simply appear over Liberl and wait for the party to reach it.
Its arrival shuts down almost every normal orbment in the country.
Airships lose power, communications disappear, street lamps stop working, factories stall, military weapons become unreliable, and even ordinary road travel becomes more dangerous because the lamps that helped keep monsters away no longer function.
That makes Land of Turmoil a very different chapter from the tower operation that came before it. There is no working airship ready to carry Estelle straight to the floating city. For most of the chapter, the job is to cross Liberl on foot while restoring enough communication for the kingdom to function.
If you have not seen the Aureole appear yet, finish the Chapter 7 walkthrough first.
Start at the Bose Guild and Activate the Zero Field Generator
The first useful countermeasure is already in Bose.
Professor Russell built a prototype called the Zero Field Generator. It resonates against the same field responsible for the Orbal Shutdown and allows nearby orbments to function again.
The limitation is what shapes the entire chapter.
Russell only has 16 generators completed.
They are not powerful enough to restore a city-wide power grid or protect something as large as an airship. Their useful role is keeping small orbments and communications running at critical locations.
The allocation reflects that:
- 10 are assigned to the Royal Army for command, major defensive positions, and checkpoints;
- the remaining units are used to reconnect the Bracer Guild network.
Set up the Bose unit first.
Once Tita activates it, the communicator works immediately and the party can contact Russell aboard the Arseille.
Your Next Job Is the Remaining Guild Branches
Grancel is already being handled separately, so Estelle’s group is given the remaining regional deliveries.
This is where Chapter 8 becomes a long overland journey.
With normal airships unavailable, I treat it as one continuous circuit:
Bose → Ruan region → Zeiss region → Rolent region → Grancel.
The exact amount of optional work you do along the way depends on whether you are only finishing the story or protecting a completion run.
For an A-Rank or Quest Master run, Chapter 8 contains a large concentration of Guild work and several conditions that are much easier to handle while you are already crossing each region. The exact quest windows and BP checks are in the BP and quest guide.
The blackout also changes familiar roads more than I expected. Locations that were trivial earlier can now be dark, their mechanical conveniences are dead, and monsters are roaming without the normal roadside systems keeping them under control.
Cross from Bose Toward the Ruan Region
Leaving Bose means doing something the game has rarely forced for this long: traveling a large part of Liberl without relying on airships.
The route itself is familiar, but the conditions are not.
Drawbridges and powered equipment may no longer work normally, and previously safe stretches have more active monsters. Night-vision equipment also becomes genuinely useful in areas that depended on orbal lighting.
I do not spend heavily on every shop encountered during this circuit. Chapter 8 gives you a lot of towns in succession, and buying every marginal upgrade can drain mira before the final chapters.
I prioritize:
- an obvious weapon improvement on a character I actually use;
- armor when someone is consistently taking too much damage;
- recovery and revival items before long road sections;
- anything needed for a quest I intend to finish before leaving the region.
The first major interruption happens around Jenis Royal Academy.
Jenis Royal Academy Has Been Seized
The Academy crisis is not an optional detour.
Enhanced Jaegers have occupied the school, and Gilbert has chosen his old academy as the stage for his attempt to prove himself to the Society.
Once this event triggers, deal with the Academy before continuing the regional circuit.
The students are trapped inside, and the rescue progresses through the campus rather than ending with one fight at the gate.
Work through the occupied buildings, clear the Jaegers blocking access, and keep advancing until the students can be freed.
The route eventually leads to Gilbert.
Gilbert Takes a Hostage at the Academy
Gilbert tries to turn the final confrontation in his favor by using a student as leverage.
This is part of the required sequence rather than a hostage puzzle with a separate hidden solution.
Let the confrontation develop, then defeat Gilbert and his remaining forces.
His explanation makes it clear that the Academy attack was partly his own attempt to create more chaos and earn status inside the Society.
That distinction becomes even clearer when Campanella appears afterward.
Campanella Does Not Back Gilbert’s Kidnapping Plan
After Gilbert loses, Campanella arrives.
Gilbert initially treats the appearance as rescue from a superior, but Campanella immediately undercuts that assumption: the Society did not specifically order him to kidnap the princess or carry out the hostage stunt.
Gilbert’s improvisation was his own.
Campanella allows him to leave, apologizes for the Academy incident, and the immediate crisis ends.
There is no second Academy boss after that.
Once the school is secure, return to the regional delivery route.
Continue Through Zeiss and Rolent
The next stretches are less cinematic but more demanding in terms of distance.
You are still working toward the same practical goal: reconnect the remaining Guild branches while checking what the blackout has done to each region.
Zeiss feels particularly different without working orbments. Escalators, lighting, production equipment and other pieces of the city’s normal infrastructure are simply dead.
That is also why I avoid interpreting every inactive machine as a puzzle. Most of the time it is environmental evidence of the shutdown, not something Estelle is expected to repair herself.
Keep moving through the branch deliveries and any Guild work you are completing on the way.
For completion runs, check the BP and quest guide before leaving a region rather than trying to remember every Chapter 8 condition from one long checklist.
The Last Regional Stretch Sends You Toward Grancel
By the time the remaining Guild communications are being restored, Liberl is functioning well enough to exchange reports again.
That does not mean the crisis is easing.
Near the end of the overland circuit, the party hears an airship engine.
That should not be possible under the shutdown.
The ships belong to the Society.
Once you see them heading toward Grancel, the regional circuit is over.
Do not keep wandering through earlier towns looking for another routine delivery trigger.
Head for the capital.
Grancel Is Already Under Attack
The Society uses the shutdown exactly as the Royal Army feared.
Most of Liberl’s defenses depend heavily on orbments, while Ouroboros prepared its own forces to keep operating.
Blueblanc, Walter, Luciola and Renne enter Grancel together, with Jaegers and Archaisms spreading through the city.
By the time Estelle arrives, fighting is already underway.
The Bracer Guild is sheltering civilians while the army handles what it can in the surrounding districts.
Your priority is Grancel Castle.
Do not stop to clear every enemy in every block before moving forward. The people defending the city explicitly send Estelle after the Enforcers heading for the royal family.
Push Through the City to Grancel Castle
The streets between the party and the castle contain Society forces, so expect several battles on the way.
The party learns that the royal family has already pulled deeper into the castle.
Walter destroys the castle gates rather than waiting for a conventional siege, and the Enforcers continue toward the Royal Keep.
Inside the castle, Duke Dunan and Phillip both help delay them.
That buys time, but neither group can stop four Enforcers indefinitely.
Keep moving toward the Keep.
The Enforcers Reach Kloe and Queen Alicia
By the time Estelle catches up, Kloe and Queen Alicia are already facing the Enforcers.
This is one of the chapter’s deliberate impossible-looking standoffs.
Joshua recognizes the situation immediately: with Blueblanc, Walter, Luciola and Renne together, the party does not have a clean conventional victory available.
The breakthrough comes from people who were positioned for exactly this kind of emergency.
First Cid arrives.
Then Richard returns with former Special Ops soldiers who have been deployed under Cassius’s contingency plan.
Richard is still serving his sentence, but Liberl needs soldiers who can fight effectively without relying on orbal weapons. That makes his old unit unusually valuable during the shutdown.
The balance finally shifts enough for the Enforcers to withdraw.
Kloe Becomes Crown Princess After the Capital Crisis
Once Grancel is secure, the story pauses long enough for Queen Alicia to reveal another major change.
Kloe has formally accepted the position of Crown Princess and heir to the Liberlian throne.
Her decision comes after seeing what happened at the Academy and throughout the kingdom. She chooses to take responsibility instead of continuing to avoid the succession question.
The celebration does not last.
A report arrives from Haken Gate:
the Erebonian Imperial Army has gathered at the border.
One division is already present, and it has tanks that still work despite the Orbal Shutdown.
They are steam powered, not orbal.
That means Liberl cannot dismiss the deployment as a normal misunderstanding.
Escort Kloe to Haken Gate
Kloe decides to go to Haken Gate herself and negotiate.
Estelle’s group accompanies her as escort and neutral Bracer representatives.
The Guild cannot simply join a war between two countries, but Bracers can act as mediators.
Once this decision is made, Haken Gate is the next required destination.
You do not need to return to the Academy or resume the regional generator circuit.
Travel to the border and let Kloe meet Lieutenant General Zex Vander.
Olivier Reveals Who He Really Is
The negotiation initially goes badly.
Erebonia argues that the Orbal Shutdown is spilling across the border and that the huge floating structure above Liberl could represent a military threat.
Then someone familiar steps into the discussion.
Olivier stops pretending to be an ordinary wandering musician.
His real identity is Olivert Reis Arnor, one of Emperor Eugent III’s sons.
The reveal changes the negotiation immediately because the disagreement is no longer only Liberl speaking against an Imperial general; an Erebonian prince is now personally involved.
Olivier deliberately pressures the discussion until Liberl is forced to provide something tangible rather than simply asking Erebonia to trust its explanation.
That proof arrives with Cassius.
The Arseille Proves Liberl Has a Way Forward
Cassius arrives aboard the Arseille.
An airship operating during the shutdown is exactly the kind of evidence the Imperial side demanded.
Russell has completed a larger Zero Field Generator capable of protecting the ship’s systems, which is why the Arseille can fly when ordinary orbal aircraft cannot.
Zex agrees to pull back.
He cannot stop every future Imperial action indefinitely, but the immediate border crisis is defused.
Olivier’s actions also make his longer-term conflict inside Erebonia much clearer, but Chapter 8’s immediate problem is settled:
Liberl has bought time.
The Final Destination Is the Floating City
Back aboard the Arseille, Kevin brings the final piece of information needed to move forward.
The Aureole is more than the floating city itself. It is the ancient system powering and controlling that enormous structure.
If the party can find the Aureole inside the city, they finally have a concrete target.
The route that dominated Chapter 8 is finished.
There are no more regional Guild deliveries to complete for the main story. The next mission is no longer about keeping Liberl functioning on the ground.
It is about boarding the floating city above Valleria Lake.
Before committing to that departure on a completion run, check your remaining quests and Bracer progress in the BP and quest guide.
Once Kloe orders the Arseille to set course for the floating city, Land of Turmoil ends and the Final Chapter begins.
