Chapter 5 Walkthrough – That Which Must Be Protected

Quick Answer

In Bose, finish the three wanted-monster assignments first. After Ragnard attacks, help with the rescue, then follow Agate toward Ravennue Village and the open-pit mine. When the Royal Army operation fails to hold the dragon, go to Nebel Valley, visit Wemler’s hut on the eastern side first, then use his route into the northwest valley and destroy the Gospel on Ragnard.

After the fog in Rolent, Chapter 5 finally resumes the trip toward Bose, but it does not begin with the dragon.

The first required block is much quieter: the Bose Guild hands out three wanted-monster jobs, and those hunts are what move the chapter forward. Once they are finished, the scale changes almost immediately. Ragnard appears over Bose, Loewe steps into the open, Agate runs after the dragon, and what looked like routine regional work becomes a rescue followed by a military operation.

If you are still inside Mistwald, finish the Chapter 4 walkthrough before continuing.

Clear All Three Wanted Monsters in Bose

The three wanted monsters are not optional filler standing between you and the next cutscene.

Finish all three.

Until that block is complete, Chapter 5 does not move into its main incident. I handle the hunts as one circuit rather than repeatedly returning to Bose after each target, then report everything once the route is done.

If you are protecting an A-Rank run, check the BP and quest guide before closing out this section. Chapter 5 has several bonus conditions tied to story and side-quest events, but the exact BP choices do not need to interrupt the main route here.

Once the Guild work is settled, the chapter stops feeling routine.

Ragnard Appears Over Bose

The first sight of the dragon happens suddenly.

Ragnard flies over Bose, and Loewe openly confirms that Ouroboros is involved.

Ragnard appearing above Bose during Chapter 5
Ragnard's appearance is the turning point of Chapter 5. The routine Bose assignments end here and the chapter becomes a dragon incident.

Agate immediately goes after him.

The party does not follow at once because Bose has people trapped in the damage left behind. Help with the rescue first.

One of the important victims is Leela, who is buried under rubble after protecting Mayor Maybelle. Once she is pulled free and the immediate danger in the city is under control, the route shifts toward Ravennue.

This is also one of the Chapter 5 story points that can affect bonus BP, so completion-focused runs should check the BP and quest guide before advancing too far.

Go to Ravennue Instead of Chasing the Dragon Blindly

Agate has already left ahead of the group.

Do not try to follow Ragnard directly through the sky or search random roads around Bose. The useful ground route takes you toward Ravennue Village.

The village gives the party the local context needed to continue, and signs of Agate eventually point toward the open-pit mine.

Once you hear him in that direction, that is where the chapter wants you to go.

The Open-Pit Mine Leads to Agate and Loewe

Inside the mine, keep going until you reach Agate.

He has caught up with Loewe, and the encounter becomes much more personal than the earlier dragon chase.

This is not a fight where Estelle simply replaces Agate and defeats Loewe. The scene is built around Agate confronting him, losing ground, and refusing to back away even after his blade is damaged.

Tita eventually reaches him with the rest of the party and refuses to leave him behind.

The Royal Army arrives before the situation turns into a normal party victory over Loewe, and the focus returns to the dragon.

You can leave this sequence knowing two things:

  • Ragnard is still the immediate threat;
  • simply attacking the dragon with ordinary firepower has not solved the problem.

Wait for the Royal Army Plan in Bose

After the mine incident, the Guild and Royal Army coordinate the next attempt.

The important appointment is specific:

International Landing Port, 10:00 the next morning.

The army plans to use airships to capture the dragon, and the party is invited along as observers.

The operation initially looks successful.

Ragnard is hit with enough tranquilizer to put an enormous number of normal monsters to sleep, and the army prepares to tow him away.

Then Dorothy notices something on his forehead.

The Gospel Is Attached to Ragnard’s Forehead

What first looks like a strange lump has a slit through it.

The group realizes that the object on Ragnard is a Gospel.

Gospel attached to Ragnard's forehead in Chapter 5
The object on Ragnard's forehead is a Gospel, explaining why the dragon's behavior is tied to Ouroboros rather than a natural rampage.

That changes the objective.

The dragon is not something the party needs to kill. The immediate goal becomes destroying the Gospel controlling him.

Ragnard wakes, escapes the operation, and moves into northwest Nebel Valley.

The Royal Army can track where he disappears, but it cannot simply land a large force there. The fog is too thick, the terrain has no ordinary road into the northwest section, and a visible troop movement risks driving the dragon away again.

That is where Agate provides the missing route.

Professor Russell’s Vibration Unit Can Break the Gospel

Agate has a new attachment fitted to his sword.

Professor Russell designed it specifically for the Gospel problem.

Agate showing Professor Russell's vibration unit attached to his sword
The vibration unit sends high-frequency vibrations through Agate's blade so a direct hit can collapse the Gospel's outer frame.

The mechanism is unusually concrete: the unit transmits high-frequency vibrations through the blade, which can collapse the Gospel’s frame when Agate lands a strong enough strike.

There is also a limitation.

The vibration damages the unit itself, so it can only be used a few times.

That means the plan is not to keep hitting Ragnard endlessly with the device. The party needs to create a clean opening for Agate to connect with the Gospel.

Before that can happen, you still have to find the dragon.

Go to Wemler’s Hut on the Eastern Side of Nebel Valley First

Ragnard disappeared into the northwest part of Nebel Valley.

Your first destination is not northwest.

Agate knows Wemler, who manages the valley and knows routes the army does not. His mountain hut is on the eastern side.

Party explaining that Wemler lives on the eastern side of Nebel Valley
Ragnard is hiding in northwest Nebel Valley, but the route starts on the eastern side with Wemler. Go to his mountain hut before searching deeper.

This is the easiest navigation mistake in the second half of Chapter 5: the target is northwest, so heading northwest feels logical, but there is no normal road that takes you where Ragnard landed.

Find Wemler first.

Once you speak with him, use the route he provides to push farther into the valley.

Approach Ragnard Through the Deeper Valley

Follow Wemler’s route into the remote section of Nebel Valley.

By the time the party reaches Ragnard, he is asleep again and Loewe is nowhere in sight. That looks like the ideal chance to destroy the Gospel before the dragon can react.

Agate approaches first and strikes the device.

The hit works, but not enough.

He cracks the Gospel without breaking it.

That matters because it confirms that the vibration unit is doing what Russell intended; the failure is not that you brought the wrong equipment. Agate simply needs another clean hit.

The dragon wakes before he gets it.

The First Vibration Strike Is Supposed to Fail

Once the first hit only cracks the Gospel, the battle begins.

Do not interpret that scene as a failed route or a missed preparation step.

The next objective is to keep Ragnard occupied long enough for Agate to get another opening.

I spend recovery here when the party needs it rather than trying to preserve everything for a nonexistent second dragon dungeon. The encounter is already the chapter’s main payoff, and surviving long enough to reach the scripted opening matters more than finishing with a full inventory.

Eventually the party appears to bring Ragnard down, but the dragon gets back up.

The legends about his durability are not just flavor.

The fight needs one more setup.

Tita’s Flashbang Creates the Final Opening

Agate asks Tita whether she has a flashbang.

She does.

Agate asking Tita to use a flashbang during the Ragnard fight
The last opening is scripted around Tita's flashbang. She aims upward while Estelle and Olivier hold Ragnard in place.

The instruction is important:

Tita aims upward, not directly at Ragnard.

Estelle and Olivier hold the dragon still for a moment while the flash creates the window Agate needs.

This is not an item you were supposed to buy in advance or manually select from your inventory. Let the sequence play out.

Agate lands the decisive strike and destroys the Gospel.

Once it is gone, Ragnard is freed from the Society’s control.

Ragnard Is Not Killed

Destroying the Gospel resolves the dragon incident without killing the ancient dragon.

Ragnard communicates with the party afterward and confirms that he is one of the dragon clan that has slept in Liberl for generations.

The important result for the chapter is simple: the rampage ends because the control device is gone.

There is no need to keep attacking him after the Gospel breaks.

Chapter 5 closes from there, with the immediate Bose crisis resolved and the Society’s experiment exposed.

The next major story stage moves away from Bose and eventually leads into the events around Valleria Lake. Continue with the Chapter 6 walkthrough once the next chapter begins.
