Quick Answer

Shift At Midnight Story Mode contains 13 shifts. I treat the run as three connected problems: survive the active threat, protect useful store income, and preserve the personal funds needed for the pet’s $250 surgery. Use the problem table below to jump directly to the guide that solves the current blocker.

The main Story Mode challenge is deciding what deserves attention when several systems overlap. This hub identifies the problem; each linked guide provides the full solution.

The Six Rules That Carry Every Shift

Every-shift ruleWhy it matters
Read warnings firstThe warning determines which trap, weapon, route, or special response is required
Keep checkout accessibleA blocked counter slows customer flow and reduces useful income
Verify before shootingKilling a real human loses the transaction and can reduce personal earnings
Record fuel and plate togetherThis reduces unnecessary travel between the driver, vehicle, registry, and pump
Prepare one passive defense laneSolo players cannot actively watch both entrances during a Hunt
Track personal funds late-gameStore quota and shopping money do not guarantee the $250 surgery payment

When several jobs compete, my decision chain is:

Immediate threat → special Entity mechanic → waiting customer → nearly completed driver → blocking restock or cleanup → optional work

This is the full logic behind the Solo Guide. The Hub does not repeat every customer, driver, shopping, or cleaning step.

Story Mode Progression at a Glance

Story Mode tasks and threats can vary, so I use broader stages rather than assuming every player receives the same event on the same Shift.

Story stageMain pressureWhat matters most
Opening shiftsLearning customers, stock, cleaning, and quotaBuild one repeatable route between the computer, shelves, checkout, and exit
Early expansionDrivers and more travel between work areasCollect the fuel amount and plate before returning inside
Mid-storyDetection tools and special warningsRead the computer before shopping and keep required tools accessible
Late storyHunts overlap with customers and store clutterPre-place warning-specific equipment and reduce optional work
Final three daysPersonal earnings affect surgeryProtect verified transactions and avoid human-kill penalties
Shift 13Final survival, payout, and ending checkBuy essential defense and skip cosmetic perfection

The exact route through each stage is covered in the Solo Guide.

Pet Treatment and Ending Decisions

The pet route begins with observed $20 and $40 treatment payments before the final $250 surgery requirement.

Store-shopping money cannot pay these medical costs. The final surgery uses personal funds, and the Shift 13 payout can still contribute before the final check.

Final routeRequirementResult
True EndingDon’t Call Clyde and finish with $250 or morePet and Clyde survive
Grave DecisionCall ClydePet survives and Clyde dies
Empty HomeDon’t Call Clyde and finish below $250Clyde survives and the pet dies

The important hidden rule is:

Don’t Call Clyde does not automatically produce the True Ending.

Use the Pet Guide for treatment, pet selection, and store behavior. Use the Endings Guide for the complete Clyde decision and final payout calculation.

Special Threat Quick Reference

Special threats do not share one universal combat solution.

ThreatFirst responseFull guide
DementedStop shooting while it is frozen; prepare a trap and control eye contactDemented Guide
Jack-in-the-Box Music BoxStop normal work and search floor-level clutter immediatelyMusic Box Guide
Blood Moon / Entity AssaultCover two routes and prepare before the opening waveEntities Guide

The warning on the computer is the real preparation signal. I do not assume that a normal firearm solves an observation mechanic, countdown event, or warning-specific Entity.

First-Run Reading Path

For a first Story Mode run, I use this order:

  1. Read the Solo Guide before opening the first shift.
  2. Open the matching Entity page whenever a special warning appears.
  3. Read the Pet Guide once the treatment payments begin.
  4. Check the Endings Guide before choosing whether to call Clyde.
  5. Use the Achievements Guide to plan the remaining ending routes and 100% completion.

This keeps the Hub focused on navigation while each specialist page handles the full route, evidence, screenshots, and troubleshooting.

The House Always Wins FAQ

Can Shift At Midnight be completed solo? +

Yes. I completed all 13 Story Mode shifts alone. Solo is mainly harder because one player must handle customers, drivers, warnings, store work, and Hunts without assigning tasks to teammates.

How many Story Mode shifts are there? +

Story Mode contains 13 shifts. The exact combination of customers, tasks, warnings, and threats can vary, so I use stage-based priorities rather than one rigid night-by-night script.

How many endings are in Shift At Midnight? +

There are three main outcomes: True Ending, Grave Decision, and Empty Home. They are determined by the Clyde choice and whether personal funds reach the $250 surgery requirement.

Do store purchases reduce the pet surgery fund? +

No. Weapons, traps, ammunition, healing, stock, and decorations use the store-shopping balance. Pet medicine and the $250 surgery use personal funds.

Which Shift At Midnight guide should I read first? +

Start with the Solo Guide for the full task-priority system. Then open the matching Entity guide when a special warning appears, followed by the Pet and Endings guides before the final story decision.
