Minecraft Dungeons II Walkthrough: Where to Go Next
Follow the Minecraft Dungeons II main quest from Squid Coast through Brave Haven, Rainy Plains, Frozen Highlands, the late-game quest chain, and ending.
Updated:
Quick Answer
Follow the active main quest, not every nearby side objective.
The main order is Squid Coast → Brave Haven → first Sift visit → The Lost Merchant → Little Howl → Enchantsmith training → Corruption in the Woods → Deep Dark → Missing Note Blocks → Rainy Plains → Frozen Highlands → Returning the Note Blocks → Lost Harmonies → A Monstrosity in the Meadow → Wrath of the Sculkers → The Final Souldown.
If Brave Haven’s gate is closed, pick up the Key Golem on the grassy patch just left of the gate approach. If the bridge into Howling Woods is still broken, finish the Lost Merchant’s supply objective, activate the Minecart Station, return to Brave Haven, and collect the bridge lever.
Minecraft Dungeons II stops feeling linear soon after Brave Haven. Main quests, side objectives, rifts, Minecart Stations, shops, and optional exploration can all appear at the same time, so a nearby marker is not always the marker that advances the story.
Treat the selected main quest as the route marker. When progress stops, check the condition attached to that quest before clearing unrelated side objectives or unexplored branches.
Escape Squid Coast and Reach Brave Haven
Clear the path through Squid Coast, rescue the villagers on the route, and keep moving toward the boats. The opening area ends when the surviving villagers leave the ruined coast and the story sends you across the water.
Your next stop is Brave Haven.
Before taking the first fight outside town, equip the useful armor and weapon drops collected during the escape. For Artifact slots, Enchantment Points, early spending, Guidance, and other opening systems, see the beginner guide.
Brave Haven Gate Closed: Find the Key Golem
The villagers at the closed gate cannot open it because the Key Golem was frightened away.
After speaking to the villager at the gate, turn back toward the small grassy area immediately to the left of the gate approach. The Key Golem is glowing on the grass beside the short stone steps, only a few seconds from the villager.
Pick it up and carry it straight back to the gate. Do not leave Brave Haven or head toward Honeycomb Farm; the Key Golem is still inside the same gate area.
Bring it back to the gate, open the route, then clear the Illager attack outside town.
Once the fight is over, continue with the objective pointing toward the dimensional disturbance.
Enter the First Rift, Then Return to the Overworld
The next story objective introduces the Illager High Council’s rifts and sends you into the Sift for the first time.
Enter the rift, finish the required encounter, and follow the return objective back to the Overworld. This first visit does not open the deeper late-game route through the dimension, so searching the area for a hidden permanent exit will not advance the story.
If the Sift encounter itself is the blocker, including closed ambush barriers or return access, use The Sift for those mechanics.
After returning, continue following the main objective until the route toward Howling Woods is blocked by a broken bridge.
Broken Bridge: Find the Lost Merchant First
At the Howling Woods crossing, stop beside the villager standing next to the tall wooden lever mechanism. The lever is visibly broken, so interacting with the bridge will not open the route.
The merchant who was supposed to repair it has gone missing. Follow the new Lost Merchant objective instead of searching around the bridge for another switch.
Follow the merchant objective rather than trying to jump or route around the bridge.
During the search, pick up the key near the locked door and carry it to the matching entrance. The path then leads into an ambush and the merchant rescue.
Rescuing the merchant does not finish this progression step.
The merchant still needs supplies for the bridge repair. Recover those supplies first. Once they are secured, activate the nearby Minecart Station so the merchant can return to Brave Haven.
Back in Brave Haven, speak to the returned merchant and collect the new bridge lever.
Take the lever back to the broken bridge and install it. The route into Howling Woods is now open.
From this point onward, activating Minecart Stations when you reach them is worth doing immediately. They shorten later returns to Brave Haven and become much more valuable as the world expands.
Cross Into Howling Woods and Reach Little Howl
With the new bridge lever installed, cross into Howling Woods and continue toward Little Howl.
Do not let nearby side quests pull you away from the current route unless the detour is short. The next required progression point is The Silence in Little Howl, followed by the Enchantsmith sequence.
After Little Howl is safe, the cleric directs you toward the Enchantsmith near the Minecart Station.
Complete Training with the Enchantsmith before heading deeper into the caves.
If the Enchantsmith is available but the enchanting system itself is unclear, including Enchantment Books, ranks, and upgrade choices, use Minecraft Dungeons II enchantments.
Corruption in the Woods Comes Before the Deep Dark
The next required progression is:
Corruption in the Woods → Down into the Deep Dark
Continue through Corruption in the Woods and defeat the required boss before pushing farther into the High Council’s route. If the fight itself is stopping you, check the boss strategy before another attempt.
After that, descend into the Deep Dark.
Near the end of the Deep Dark sequence, the Illager High Council activates another portal. That event advances the story into the next objective rather than sending you back to an earlier rift.
When the objective changes to The Missing Note Blocks, follow it.
Do not return to Brave Haven looking for another story trigger.
Missing Note Blocks: Go Through Rainy Plains
The Missing Note Blocks objective expands into a longer regional chain.
After the initial part of the quest, the route points toward Rainy Plains. One of the clearest directions comes from the Cartographer: take the minecart back toward Woodcutter’s Outpost, where the route into Rainy Plains continues.
That means walking randomly toward unexplored terrain is slower than using the travel connection the quest gives you.
Once inside Rainy Plains, stay with the active quest until the regional objective is complete.
If normal enemies are now draining the potion before each major encounter, fix the weakest weapon, armor, or resource problem before repeatedly forcing the same route. Stronger combinations are covered in Minecraft Dungeons II best builds.
Rainy Plains Leads Into Frozen Highlands
After Rainy Plains, the next major region is Frozen Highlands.
The region quest explicitly points toward the Prime Enchanter, who is hiding in the highlands, and indicates that the second Note Block may be in the same hidden base.
So the progression order here is:
Missing Note Blocks → Rainy Plains → Frozen Highlands → Returning the Note Blocks
If Returning the Note Blocks has not appeared yet, going back to the earlier portal will not skip the unfinished Frozen Highlands objective.
Finish the required route first.
Frozen Highlands also contains optional completion objectives. Those do not have to be finished before the main story continues. If you are cleaning up achievements later, use Minecraft Dungeons II achievements for those requirements instead of interrupting the current quest.
Return the Note Blocks, Then Start Lost Harmonies
Once the regional objectives are finished, return the missing Note Blocks.
Completing that step reopens the route needed for the late-game quest chain.
The next main quest is Lost Harmonies.
When the ancient portal reopens, finish Lost Harmonies and follow the next Sift objective. If Singer’s Meadow, the Gift of Song, or the portal route is blocking you, continue through The Sift.
The remaining order is:
- A Monstrosity in the Meadow
- Wrath of the Sculkers
- The Final Souldown
A Monstrosity in the Meadow
After Lost Harmonies, start A Monstrosity in the Meadow.
Complete the active objective and continue into Wrath of the Sculkers. If the major encounter itself is stopping progress, use Minecraft Dungeons II bosses.
Wrath of the Sculkers Comes Next
After the meadow sequence, continue into Wrath of the Sculkers.
At this point you are already inside the final story chain. Old side quests can wait unless one of them provides something you specifically need for the current build.
Finish Wrath of the Sculkers.
The next required objective is The Final Souldown.
Finish The Final Souldown
Continue through The Final Souldown until the major fight is over, then keep following the active portal objective.
Do not leave simply because the boss health bar is gone. The story does not finish until the portal objective itself resolves.
Once that happens, the main conflict is complete and the game moves into Postgame & Final Quests before the full run reaches the credits.
The portal, the Singer’s role, and the final change to the Sift are explained in The Sift.
What to Do After the Ending
After the main conflict is resolved, the fixed story route is no longer the priority.
The remaining work is better handled according to what you want next:
- use Minecraft Dungeons II achievements for unfinished completion requirements;
- use Minecraft Dungeons II map for missed Minecart Stations and location cleanup;
- use best builds and enchantments when stronger gear and combat efficiency matter more than exploration.
There is no need to replay large parts of the main route just because an optional objective remains somewhere behind you.
Stuck? Check the Last Main Quest You Finished
Use the last completed story step to find the next one:
- Reached Brave Haven: recover the Key Golem and open the gate.
- Finished the first Illager attack: investigate the rift and complete the first Sift visit.
- Reached the broken bridge: find the Lost Merchant.
- Rescued the Lost Merchant: recover the supplies, activate the Minecart Station, return to Brave Haven, and collect the bridge lever.
- Finished Little Howl: complete Training with the Enchantsmith.
- Finished Corruption in the Woods: continue into the Deep Dark.
- Finished the Deep Dark: start The Missing Note Blocks.
- Working on the Note Blocks: continue through Rainy Plains, then Frozen Highlands.
- Finished Frozen Highlands: return the Note Blocks.
- Finished Lost Harmonies: start A Monstrosity in the Meadow.
- Finished A Monstrosity in the Meadow: continue into Wrath of the Sculkers.
- Finished Wrath of the Sculkers: start The Final Souldown.
- Finished the final portal objective: continue with Minecraft Dungeons II endgame.
If the current state does not match one of those checkpoints, check which main quest is selected before assuming an unexplored branch, side quest, dungeon, or map icon is blocking progression.
