How to Complete Training with the Enchantsmith
Complete Training with the Enchantsmith by finding the stolen books, entering the wishing well, clearing the final dungeon, and unlocking enchanting.

Quick Answer
After finishing Little Howl, find the Enchantsmith near the Minecart Station and start his book quest.
Follow the objectives for the stolen Enchantment Books. When the route sends you into the wishing well and the final book is gone, return to Brave Haven, enter the newly opened dungeon outside town, clear it, then speak to the Enchantsmith again.
Training with the Enchantsmith looks like a simple book-recovery quest until the last objective refuses to resolve the way the earlier ones do.
That is the part that can make the quest feel broken. You can find the book objectives, reach the wishing well, clear the enemies there, and still come back without the final book. Nothing has failed at that point. The quest deliberately sends you back to the Enchantsmith before opening the last dungeon.
The full route is therefore not just “find three books.” It is:
Little Howl → recover the reachable books → wishing well → return to Brave Haven → final dungeon → Enchantsmith unlock.
Where Do You Start Training with the Enchantsmith?
Finish the main objective in Little Howl first.
Once the village is safe, the next story handoff points you toward the Enchantsmith near the Minecart Station. He warns that the Illager High Council is using powers you are not ready to deal with yet and sends you after the Enchantment Books that were taken from him.
The three important books tied to this stage are Piercing, Healing Smite, and Ancient Alchemy.
You do not need to clear every side quest around Little Howl before continuing. Keep the Enchantsmith objective tracked and follow the active book marker instead. Optional errands can still be finished later.
If the Enchantsmith has not appeared for this handoff yet, your problem is earlier story progression rather than the book hunt. Continue the main walkthrough until Little Howl is complete.
Do You Need to Buy Better Gear Before Looking for the Books?
There is no merchant purchase required to finish Training with the Enchantsmith.
That makes this a bad point to spend Emeralds just because a shop has refreshed. Early equipment is still changing quickly, and replacing an item with another piece at roughly the same usefulness does nothing to advance the quest.
I only stop to buy here when the upgrade fixes a real combat problem: a weapon is several steps behind current drops, an armor slot is clearly outdated, or normal enemies are already consuming the potion before I reach the objective.
If the current setup is clearing regular packs without much trouble, keep the Emeralds and continue toward the books.
Follow the Enchantment Book Markers Instead of Exploring Every Branch
Once the quest begins, keep the book objective selected.
The route takes you through hostile sections around the current region while the objective switches between the missing books. There are chests, side paths, enemies, and other activities nearby, but none of those replace the tracked book requirement.
This is one of those quests where following the map marker saves a lot of unnecessary wandering. When a book marker is below or beyond your current level, use the local path around the terrain instead of assuming there is another quest trigger somewhere else.
The important change happens when the remaining objective leads toward Ancient Alchemy.
Enter the Wishing Well When the Objective Sends You There
Eventually the quest points directly into the wishing well.
Go inside.
The well is not a shortcut to a normal book pickup. Once you reach the hiding place, the Evoker that had the last book has already escaped.
Clear the ambush inside, then leave.
This is the first major blocker in the quest because the normal pattern has changed. Earlier, reaching the marker advances the book collection. Here, reaching the correct place confirms that the book is no longer there.
Do not keep circling the well looking for a hidden interactable after the ambush is over.
Your next step is to report back.
Return to the Enchantsmith After the Wishing Well
Go back to Brave Haven and speak to the Enchantsmith again.
He confirms that the books you recovered are usable, but the last Enchantment Book is still missing. He then points you toward a dungeon outside town, where the remaining book has been taken.
At this stage, enchanting is still not fully available.
That distinction matters. Reaching the wishing well does not complete Training with the Enchantsmith, and returning with only the earlier books does not let you skip the final dungeon.
The condition for moving forward is now:
enter the newly available dungeon and finish it.
How Do You Reach the Enchantsmith Dungeon Outside Brave Haven?
After the conversation in Brave Haven, leave toward the newly opened dungeon route.
The approach is easy to misread because the lower stonework looks like the obvious path, while the usable route climbs higher.
Go up onto the broken structure and cross the fallen pillar.
If you are standing below the structure trying to force a route through the lower wall, you are wasting time. Get elevation first, cross the broken pillar, then continue toward the dungeon entrance.
Once the entrance is available, go in. You do not need another key item or merchant purchase.
Clear the Dungeon Before Returning Again
The final dungeon is the harder combat section of the quest.
At this point, judge the run by what is happening before the last encounter. If regular enemies are already stripping most of your health and forcing every potion cooldown, continuing deeper with the same loadout is likely to turn the last section into repeated deaths.
That is the moment when going back for a real upgrade can make sense.
A small side-grade still is not worth the detour. Replace something only if it meaningfully improves survivability or damage compared with the gear currently equipped.
Once the dungeon is cleared, use the exit rather than continuing to search it for another story trigger. The dungeon closes after completion, and the next required interaction is back with the Enchantsmith.
When Does Enchanting Actually Unlock?
Speak to the Enchantsmith again after clearing the dungeon.
That is the real completion point.
The Enchantsmith now agrees to help enchant your equipment, and the game immediately lets you start applying the Enchantment Books you have collected.
Do not spend points simply because the menu has finally opened. The quest is finished; before investing in the first item you see, compare book permanence, compatible gear, ranks, and enchantment choices.
After the training quest is complete, the main story moves toward Corruption in the Woods and the deeper Howling Woods route. If the next marker is unclear, return to the main walkthrough and continue from the post-Enchantsmith step.
