Where I Get Metal, Electric, Crystal and Golden Wood

I find Metal Wood beyond the lava route, Electric Wood during later progression, Crystal Wood in Snowy Mountain and Golden Wood in later portal areas.

Updated:

Where I Get Metal, Electric, Crystal and Golden Wood

Quick answer: I treat Metal Wood as the first advanced wood worth deliberately chasing. I reach it through the lava route after making the Heat Resistant Wooden Shoes with 6 Nails + 2 Aluminum Foil. Electric Wood appears later and becomes important once electronics start consuming it. Golden Wood comes from later portal-heavy exploration. Crystal Wood appears in Snowy Mountain; finding Crystal Trees unlocks Crystal Wood and lets me make Glass. I do not repeatedly farm any of these materials until I can name the progression upgrade or production chain that needs them.

The special woods confused me because Chop Chop Inc often shows me the requirement before the resource route is ready.

I would see:

  • Metal Wood;
  • Electric Wood;
  • Crystal Wood;
  • unusual crafting components;

in recipes long before I understood where the corresponding trees were.

My first reaction was to search harder around the current area.

That was usually the wrong answer.

These resources are tied to progression.

The useful question is not:

Where is the nearest strange tree?

It is:

Have I actually opened the region or traversal system that contains it?

My Special Wood Progression

The order I use is roughly:

Metal Wood

Electric Wood

Golden Wood

Crystal Wood

That is not a rule saying Golden Wood is always more important than Electric or Crystal.

It is the order in which these materials became useful in my progression.

I manage them differently:

  • Metal becomes a workhorse resource;
  • Electric becomes an electronics resource;
  • Golden stays rare and worth protecting;
  • Crystal becomes important for Glass and later equipment.

I do not try to fill storage with every special wood the first time I see it.

1. Metal Wood Is the First Special Wood I Deliberately Chase

Metal Wood is the first advanced resource that repeatedly blocks real progression for me.

Once Metal Ingots start appearing in:

  • construction;
  • machines;
  • Screws and other components;
  • equipment upgrades;
  • later Cannon progression;

I stop treating Metal as an optional discovery.

I need a repeatable supply.

The problem is that the first Metal Trees are not sitting beside the normal Birch, Apple or Walnut routes.

I have to open the lava path first.

Make the Heat Resistant Wooden Shoes

The important traversal upgrade is:

Heat Resistant Wooden Shoes

The materials I prepare are:

  • 6 Nails
  • 2 Aluminum Foil
Heat Resistant Wooden Shoes requiring six Nails and two Aluminum Foil in Chop Chop Inc
I prepare 6 Nails and 2 Aluminum Foil before making the Metal Wood trip. The lava route is a traversal gate, not something I solve by bringing a stronger Axe.

Once I attach the heat-resistant upgrade, I can cross the lava route and start looking for the actual Metal Tree area.

Where I Find the First Metal Trees

With the heat-resistant shoes ready, I head through the lava section.

I follow the usable route until the environment opens into the darker rocky resource area.

That is where the game finally confirms:

Metal Trees

Metal Trees discovered beyond the lava route in Chop Chop Inc
The first repeatable Metal Wood source I rely on is beyond the lava route. Once this area is open, I stop searching the normal forests for Metal Trees.

If I have crossed the lava but still only see Stone Trees, I keep following the route.

I do not immediately turn around and assume the Metal resource is somewhere else.

I Remove the Stump When Farming Metal Trees

I use the same regrowth habit here that the game teaches with normal trees.

I do not only chop the visible trunk and leave the remaining stump behind.

If I want a valuable tree to return, I finish clearing it properly.

That matters more with rare wood because I want future trips to be productive.

My first Metal run is therefore:

open route → locate trees → harvest properly → establish repeatable supply

not:

grab one Metal Wood and leave

Once the route exists, I no longer need to treat Metal as a one-time treasure.

Metal Wood Turns Into Metal Ingots

Back at the Furnace, Metal Wood becomes:

Metal Ingots

Metal Wood being processed into a Metal Ingot at the Furnace in Chop Chop Inc
Metal Wood becomes my main source of Metal Ingots. I process the amount I currently need instead of automatically converting every piece in storage.

The useful thing about this step is how quickly I can process Metal once the supply exists.

That changes how I store it.

I prefer keeping some:

raw Metal Wood

instead of turning the entire stack into Ingots immediately.

Then I can react to whichever recipe appears next.

If I need Ingots, I process them.

If something asks for Metal Wood directly, I have not already converted everything.

When I Farm More Metal Wood

Metal is the special wood I revisit most aggressively.

I make another dedicated trip when:

  • several current builds need Ingots;
  • an equipment upgrade is blocked by Metal;
  • workshop machinery is consuming Metal repeatedly;
  • my next permanent progression objective clearly needs a large Metal reserve.

I do not farm Metal just because the trees have respawned.

Respawn means the supply is ready.

It does not mean I need to collect it immediately.

This distinction becomes more useful once several advanced resources are open at the same time.

Metal Competes With Axe, Cannon and Machine Progression

By the midgame, Metal starts pulling me in several directions.

I may want it for:

  • Axe upgrades;
  • Cannon construction;
  • electronics machinery;
  • Screws;
  • other permanent builds.

That is why I do not automatically spend the first large Metal reserve on an efficiency upgrade.

If the same Ingots can either:

open another permanent system

or:

make an existing task slightly faster

I usually take the permanent system first.

The exact Axe costs stay in my Axe Upgrades Guide, while the Cannon’s own requirements stay in the Cannon Quest Guide.

2. Electric Wood Appears Before Every Electronics Recipe Is Ready

Electric Wood taught me a different lesson.

I could reach Electric Trees and collect Electric Wood before every electronics system that would eventually use it was available.

That makes the resource look like a solution to problems it cannot actually solve yet.

For example, I could already have Electric Wood while still being unable to craft a Battery.

So I separate:

resource unlocked

from:

recipe unlocked

They are not the same progression state.

Where I Get Electric Wood

As the advanced resource route expands, I reach access that makes both:

Metal Trees

and:

Electric Trees

available.

Later route giving access to Metal Trees and Electric Trees in Chop Chop Inc
Once this later access route is open, Metal and Electric Wood become much easier to revisit. I treat it as a repeatable resource stop rather than a one-time discovery.

By this stage, Electric Wood is no longer an isolated strange tree.

It becomes part of the normal advanced-resource circuit I can revisit while collecting Metal.

I Keep Electric Wood Before I Start Farming It Heavily

The first time Electric Wood appears, I collect some.

I do not immediately clear the area over and over.

My rule is:

If I have the resource but cannot yet name the recipe consuming it, I keep a reserve instead of starting a grind.

That prevents me from spending a whole session accumulating a material that will sit unused while the real progression blocker is somewhere else.

Electric Wood Does Not Unlock the Battery

This is the most important trap around Electric Wood.

Having Electric Wood does not unlock Battery production.

I can already be harvesting Electric Trees while the Battery recipe is still missing.

If I reach the Tech Bridge and need a Battery, chopping more Electric Trees does not fix that.

I continue the electronics progression until the Electronics Press is actually unlocked.

The exact unlock route and Battery recipe belong in my Battery and Electronics Press Guide.

For this resource page, the important rule is:

keep some Electric Wood, but do not mistake the material for the recipe unlock.

Electric Wood Becomes Much More Valuable Later

Electric Wood initially feels like a resource I have before I need.

That changes later.

Once electronics and advanced equipment open, several progression systems can compete for the same supply.

One later example is the Crystal Axe line, which eventually pulls Electric Wood into the same upgrade decision as Crystal Wood.

I keep the exact upgrade requirement in the Axe Upgrades Guide.

The resource-management lesson here is enough:

once late equipment opens, I stop treating Electric Wood as surplus.

When I Make Another Electric Wood Run

I go back specifically for Electric Wood when:

  • electronics are now an active progression requirement;
  • Batteries or related components are consuming my reserve;
  • a later equipment upgrade needs Electric Wood;
  • another current build has a clear Electric requirement.

I do not go back merely because I know where the Electric Trees are.

That keeps resource gathering tied to progression instead of turning into inventory hoarding.

3. Golden Wood Comes From Later Portal Exploration

Golden Wood is a different kind of special resource.

I do not find it during the early lava route.

It appears much later while I am moving through the stranger portal-heavy exploration.

The area has enough:

  • elevated terrain;
  • unusual paths;
  • portals;

that I do not rely on one arbitrary rock or doorway as my only landmark.

The thing that tells me I have reached the correct resource is the tree itself:

Golden Tree

Golden Tree found during later portal exploration in Chop Chop Inc
Golden Wood appears much later than my first Metal supply. I take some when I find the Golden Trees, but I do not make repeated trips until I have a reason to spend it.

Golden Wood does not become the same kind of workhorse material as Metal for me.

That changes how I manage it.

I Keep My First Golden Wood

My first instinct with rare-looking materials is sometimes to sell them.

I avoid that with Golden Wood.

At least one verified special interaction eventually gives Golden Wood a real use.

I keep the exact Sacrifice Bowl combination in my Sacrifice Bowl Guide instead of duplicating that solution here.

For resource management, I only need one rule:

keep some Golden Wood before selling the surplus.

Normal furniture money is much easier for me to replace than a rare material from a later portal route.

I Do Not Farm Golden Wood Like Metal

Metal supports many ordinary construction chains.

Golden Wood is much more situational in my route.

So my farming behavior is different.

For Metal:

I build a substantial reserve.

For Golden:

I keep enough to cover known special uses and only farm more when another concrete reason appears.

That prevents rarity alone from dictating how much time I spend gathering it.

4. Crystal Wood Is in Snowy Mountain

Crystal Wood is the special resource whose location became much clearer in my later progression.

I do not find it in the Metal lava area.

I do not find it by wandering farther through the Electric resource route.

I reach it after repairing the Tech Bridge and entering:

Snowy Mountain

Almost immediately after arriving, I find:

Crystal Trees

Crystal Trees found in Snowy Mountain in Chop Chop Inc
Crystal Trees appear as soon as I start exploring Snowy Mountain. This is the resource checkpoint I use instead of searching earlier Metal or Electric areas for Crystal Wood.

This is now the cleanest location answer for Crystal Wood:

open Snowy Mountain → chop Crystal Trees

If Snowy Mountain itself is still locked, searching the earlier regions harder will not help.

The route into the biome belongs in my Progression Guide.

Crystal Trees Unlock Crystal Wood and Glass

The first Crystal Tree gives me more than another wood color.

Once Crystal Wood appears, I also gain the ability to make:

Glass

That was a major practical change in my run.

Before Crystal Wood, Glass repeatedly behaved like a component I had to plan around or buy.

After reaching Crystal Trees, Glass becomes part of my own resource economy.

That means a future Glass requirement no longer automatically sends me back to a shop.

I can solve part of that construction chain by gathering Crystal Wood instead.

I Do Not Overfarm Crystal Wood on the First Snowy Mountain Trip

Finding Crystal Trees feels like a big unlock.

I still do not clear the biome repeatedly immediately.

My first Snowy Mountain trip has several jobs:

  • discover Crystal Wood;
  • learn how the cold route works;
  • light campfires;
  • continue the Grindstone progression;
  • see what the new material actually unlocks.

I gather enough Crystal Wood to support those immediate discoveries.

Then I continue.

I can always return once a large Glass or equipment requirement gives me a real target.

Crystal Wood Also Feeds the Crystal Axe Progression

Snowy Mountain does not stop at Glass.

Farther into the same stage, I upgrade the Grindstone and unlock:

Crystal Axe

That gives Crystal Wood another important use.

Later Crystal Axe progression can consume both Crystal and Electric Wood at the same time.

Crystal Axe unlocking after Snowy Mountain progression in Chop Chop Inc
Crystal Wood quickly becomes more than a Glass material. The same Snowy Mountain stage also opens the Crystal Axe line, so I keep a reserve before spending all of my Crystal Wood on construction.

I do not repeat the individual Axe upgrade costs here.

Those belong in the Axe Upgrades Guide.

For this page, the useful decision is:

do not turn the entire first Crystal Wood stack into Glass.

I keep enough raw Crystal Wood available for equipment progression too.

Crystal Wood Is Worth Farming Once Two Systems Want It

This is when I increase Crystal Wood farming:

Glass is appearing repeatedly

and/or:

Crystal equipment is now consuming it.

That is different from the first discovery.

At first:

small reserve is enough.

Later:

repeated Glass + Axe demand justifies dedicated trips.

The value of the resource changes as more systems become active.

Do Not Search for Crystal Wood During the Metal Stage

If I have only just opened the lava route and discovered Metal Trees, I am too early for Crystal Wood.

The fastest route is not:

search every unexplored cliff near the lava

It is:

use Metal to unlock the systems that move progression forward.

Crystal arrives naturally once the Tech Bridge and Snowy Mountain part of the route opens.

This is the same pattern I see repeatedly in Chop Chop Inc:

the resource is missing because the region is missing.

Not because I failed to inspect the current area carefully enough.

How I Decide Which Special Wood to Protect

Once all four woods are part of my economy, I no longer manage them as one generic “rare materials” pile.

Metal Wood

I keep the largest working reserve.

Metal and Metal Ingots are used across too many permanent systems for me to run them down casually.

Electric Wood

I keep a growing reserve once electronics become active.

Before that, I collect some without grinding heavily.

Golden Wood

I protect the first stack and keep enough for known special interactions.

I do not treat it as my normal production material.

Crystal Wood

I keep part of it raw.

Glass can consume Crystal Wood, but equipment progression can also need the same supply.

I Do Not Sell Special Wood Just Because It Looks Valuable

The biggest mistake I can make with a newly discovered rare material is thinking:

high value = sell it immediately

Money is easier to replace.

I can:

  • make common furniture;
  • complete normal contracts;
  • let Bober handle repeatable production later.

Replacing an advanced material may require another dedicated trip through a specific biome.

So until I know the resource economy well, I keep the first meaningful reserve.

The automation decisions I use once production volume increases are in my Automation Guide.

When I Farm and When I Leave

I use four questions.

Do I know where this wood comes from?

If not:

continue progression.

Can I reach it but have no active use?

If yes:

take a reserve and leave.

Is it blocking a permanent system?

If yes:

farm enough to finish that system.

Am I repeatedly running out of it?

If yes:

start treating that resource as part of my regular supply loop.

That keeps special wood gathering efficient.

My Updated Special Wood Route

The practical route I use is:

unlock Heat Resistant Wooden Shoes

cross the lava route

find the first Metal Trees

keep Metal Wood and process Ingots as needed

open reliable Metal and Electric Tree access

keep Electric Wood before electronics fully catch up

use the separate Electronics Press progression when Batteries are still locked

continue through later portal exploration

keep Golden Wood when Golden Trees appear

repair the Tech Bridge

enter Snowy Mountain

find Crystal Trees and unlock Crystal Wood

use Crystal Wood to bring Glass into my own production chain

keep part of the Crystal reserve for later equipment progression

The important part is not collecting every rare tree as early as possible.

It is knowing which region unlocks the resource, what system actually consumes it, and when farming more will save me time instead of creating another stockpile I do not need.

FAQ

Where do I get Crystal Wood in Chop Chop Inc? +

I first find Crystal Trees after opening Snowy Mountain. Chopping them unlocks Crystal Wood, and this is also the point where Glass becomes craftable in my route.

Does finding Electric Wood unlock Batteries in Chop Chop Inc? +

No. I can collect Electric Wood before Battery production is available. I still need to complete the separate electronics progression that unlocks the Electronics Press.
