Quick Answer

If Nagash’s campaign has stopped moving, identify the blocker before marching somewhere else. A treasury that will run out before the next conquest points to the economy, a full Necropolis limit points to the Ritual of Undeath, and a Mortarch that will not join needs its requirement and region count checked. For Nagashizzar or missing Grave Call units, check the Black Pyramid before spending turns on another route.

Applies to Lords of the End Times in Immortal Empires, Update 9.0.2.

Nagash can hit several very different blockers that all feel like the campaign has stopped progressing. The fastest fix is usually not another conquest. Check which system is actually preventing the next action, then solve that condition before committing more turns or resources.

If the treasury will run out before Nagash reaches the next profitable battle, sack, or major upgrade, use the Nagash economy guide to fix spending priorities, Necromantic Energy use, Necropolis placement, and army timing.

If a Mortarch requirement looks complete but the subjugation is still unavailable, check the exact requirement and the Legendary Lord’s region count in the Nagash Mortarchs guide.

If the Necropolis limit itself is stopping expansion, use the Ritual of Undeath guide before accepting the faction-wide over-cap penalty.

If A Triumph of Death is available but the battle falls apart during the Ritual Site, Chaos, or Settra phases, use the A Triumph of Death battle guide.

Two problems still deserve checking directly from the campaign map: getting Nagash to Nagashizzar without wasting a long overland march, and figuring out why Grave Call disappears on distant fronts.

Use the Black Pyramid Route to Reach Nagashizzar

Nagashizzar sits far enough from the Black Pyramid that the obvious land route through the Badlands can consume a large number of turns. Mountains, narrow passes, and hostile factions make the trip even slower, and it is easy to start several unnecessary wars before Nagash reaches the settlement.

The Black Pyramid provides a much faster option.

Open the Black Pyramid progression and work through the central path until the Nagashizzar travel unlock becomes available. Activating it opens direct travel between the Black Pyramid of Nagash and Nagashizzar.

Nagash can unlock direct travel to Nagashizzar through the Black Pyramid instead of marching across the Badlands.

This shortcut is for Nagash himself. Do not build a plan around sending another Lord through the same route automatically.

Check the Black Pyramid before beginning the overland journey. Once Nagash has already spent several turns crossing the Badlands and fighting factions on the way, most of the time saved by the shortcut has already been lost.

The portal is especially useful when Nagash needs to develop Nagashizzar for later campaign objectives while other armies remain active around the Empire or the original southern territory.

Why Grave Call Is Missing on a Distant Army

Grave Call can disappear even when the required unit has already been unlocked.

There are two separate checks.

First, confirm the unit is unlocked in the Black Pyramid. Grave Call access begins with the relevant Black Pyramid progression. If the unit has never been unlocked there, moving the army will not make it appear.

Second, check the army’s position relative to a Necropolis. A Lord operating too far from the Necropolis network can lose practical access to Grave Call even inside territory you control.

That distinction matters once Nagash’s empire stretches across several fronts. A newly recruited Lord can stand in a friendly settlement and still be too far from the Necropolis support needed for the expected Grave Call pool.

When a known unit disappears from recruitment, move the army closer to a Necropolis before spending money on another recruitment building. If Grave Call returns, distance was the blocker. If it does not, return to the Black Pyramid and check whether that unit’s unlock has actually been purchased.

Necropolis placement therefore affects more than Necromantic Energy. A well-positioned Necropolis can support a distant campaign with both Lands of the Dead coverage and practical access to undead recruitment.

Match the Symptom to the Actual Blocker

A stalled Nagash campaign usually comes down to one of these situations:

  • The treasury will run out before the next battle, sack, or major upgrade: check the Nagash economy guide before adding more upkeep.
  • The Necropolis limit is full: raise it through the Ritual of Undeath instead of accepting the over-cap penalty.
  • A Mortarch cannot be subjugated: inspect the exact requirement and the affected Legendary Lord’s current region count in the Nagash Mortarchs guide.
  • Nagash needs to reach Nagashizzar: check the Black Pyramid travel unlock before using the Badlands route.
  • Grave Call is missing: confirm the unit unlock, then move closer to a Necropolis.
  • A Triumph of Death keeps failing late: preserve more of the army through the earlier waves and follow the objectives in the A Triumph of Death battle guide.

Fix the blocker that is preventing the next action before expanding in another direction. Movement, recruitment, economy, and late-game objectives fail for different reasons, so another army or another war is rarely the right answer to all of them.
