Quick Answer

If you’re starting SnowRunner for the first time, begin in Michigan and complete the opening objectives until you reach the Garage. Scout nearby roads and Watchtowers before taking large cargo jobs. If you already have an established fleet, choose your next region through the Global Map and prepare vehicles for its terrain.

SnowRunner gives you considerable freedom over where to drive and which jobs to complete, but that freedom can make progression confusing. A contract may be available even though the road to its delivery point is damaged. A truck can have enough engine power for a load but lack the tires needed to reach the destination. Sometimes the most useful job is not a major contract at all, but a small repair that removes an obstacle from several routes.

You also do not have to finish one region before entering another. Michigan, Alaska, Taymyr, and additional regions offer different driving conditions and transport challenges. Moving between them is straightforward once you understand the Garage and vehicle storage systems.

The most effective way to choose your next job is to identify what currently prevents you from completing it: access, cargo equipment, vehicle capability, or available supplies. Those problems require different solutions, and buying another truck will not necessarily fix the one you have.

Just Started SnowRunner? Begin in Michigan

Michigan is the most practical starting region for a new player. Its opening objectives introduce vehicle recovery, cargo transportation, road repairs, and the Garage before you encounter the more demanding conditions found in later regions.

Begin in Black River and follow the opening objectives while exploring with your Chevrolet CK1500. Watchtowers reveal surrounding roads and points of interest, helping you locate jobs, vehicles, and upgrades without driving blindly into unfamiliar terrain.

Once you reach the Garage, you can begin organizing your fleet more deliberately. Keep a scout available for exploration and use a cargo truck for deliveries that require a bed or trailer.

An early mistake is attempting a difficult hauling contract with whichever truck happens to be nearby. The vehicle may be capable of carrying the load, but the route could include mud or a slope that its current tires cannot handle.

Before loading cargo, open the map and inspect the journey from pickup to delivery. Look for broken bridges, deep mud, river crossings, and opportunities to refuel. If the route is still mostly unexplored, send the scout through first.

What Should You Unlock Before Taking Harder Jobs?

Early truck upgrades often improve your progress more than purchasing an expensive replacement vehicle.

Tire availability is particularly important. A truck with enough engine power may still struggle on muddy roads because the available tires provide insufficient traction. Upgrading the tires once suitable options become available can make the same delivery substantially easier.

Suspension upgrades, all-wheel drive, and differential lock also affect what a particular truck can handle. Not every vehicle supports the same equipment, and some upgrades must be discovered on the map before they can be installed.

When a truck repeatedly gets stuck on a familiar route, check its available upgrades before assuming the entire vehicle is unsuitable.

How to Choose Your Next SnowRunner Region

There is no requirement to achieve 100% completion in Michigan before travelling elsewhere. Once you have access to the appropriate Garage and Global Map features, you can explore other available regions and return to unfinished contracts later.

Switzerland contains three maps: Grüntal Hollow, Schneetal, and Eiswandspitze. Select Grüntal Hollow to begin exploring Season 19.

The useful choice depends on the terrain you want to tackle and the vehicles already in your fleet.

Michigan offers a manageable place to build driving experience and acquire useful equipment. Its mixture of roads, mud, and river crossings gives you opportunities to learn recovery and cargo handling without immediately committing to the toughest mountain environments.

Alaska introduces much more driving on snow and ice. Chains can become valuable on icy roads, but they are not automatically the best choice for every muddy or snow-covered trail. The route and the vehicle’s available tire options still determine what works.

Taymyr places greater emphasis on difficult off-road travel, particularly through mud and uneven terrain. A truck equipped primarily for paved roads may need significant preparation before it can handle the more challenging routes.

Additional regions can be selected according to the content you own and the kind of work you want to complete. You can also travel into a more demanding region to explore or acquire equipment, then return to earlier contracts with a stronger fleet.

The important distinction is between reaching a region and being prepared to work there. Entering a new map does not guarantee that its roads, fuel facilities, or Garages are immediately convenient to use.

How to Move Your Trucks to Another Region

If you want to use an existing truck in another region, do not leave it parked on the current map and expect it to appear automatically in the new Garage.

For a normal Garage transfer:

  1. Bring or recover the truck to an accessible Garage.
  2. Select the truck and Retain it in Truck Storage.
  3. Open the Global Map and travel to the destination region.
  4. Enter an available Garage and deploy the retained truck from storage.

Trucks left on a map remain in that location until moved or recovered. Retaining a truck is what makes it available for deployment from another Garage.

Recovery rules and costs can differ in Hard Mode, so check the consequences before using recovery as a routine shortcut.

If the destination map does not have an available Garage, plan access through the region’s existing roads or gateways instead of assuming you can deploy directly there.

Why Your SnowRunner Contract Will Not Progress

A contract can remain unfinished even after reaching the marked location. Before making another delivery, open the active objective and check whether the missing requirement is cargo, road access, or an earlier contract.

Cargo must be properly packed on compatible equipment to count toward delivery. If the game refuses to pack it, check the required slots and trailer compatibility before leaving the loading area.

For a blocked road, inspect the nearby task marker and its remaining materials. A partially completed repair may not remove the obstruction, even after several deliveries.

If the contract itself is unavailable, check whether another objective must be completed first. Driving to a locked destination will not bypass its prerequisites.

The Truck Cannot Reach the Delivery Point

Before replacing the truck, determine why it cannot continue.

A vehicle that loses traction in mud needs a different solution from one that has become grounded on a rock. Better tires, differential lock, or an alternative approach may help the first problem. The second may require winching, a different vehicle position, or a route with more clearance.

For steep or exposed roads, consider the return journey as well as the outward trip. A lightly loaded truck may reach the destination easily and then struggle once its trailer is full.

Repeated attempts against the same obstacle can consume fuel and cause additional damage without improving the situation. Recovering or repositioning the vehicle may be more efficient than forcing another attempt.

When Is It Worth Buying Another Truck?

Truck purchases are most useful when they solve a specific limitation in your fleet.

If you already own a capable cargo truck and your main difficulty is poor traction, buying another large vehicle may be unnecessary. A tire or drivetrain upgrade could make the existing truck suitable for the job.

A new truck becomes more attractive when the available fleet lacks an important capability: hauling a heavy trailer, crossing difficult terrain, carrying service supplies, or operating far from a functioning Garage.

You can also obtain vehicles through exploration and recovery tasks. Before spending a substantial amount of money on another heavy truck, check whether a recoverable vehicle in an available region could meet the same need.

Prepare for the Whole Journey, Not Just the Load

Fuel capacity, repair equipment, and trailer compatibility become increasingly important as journeys get longer.

A large truck may have enough pulling power for the cargo but still be a poor choice if it consumes most of its fuel before reaching the destination. Maintenance equipment can reduce the risk of being stranded, although it may occupy space or prevent the use of certain trailers.

Check the Garage’s compatible add-ons before selecting a configuration. A setup with extra fuel and repair supplies is useful for remote travel, but it will not complete a contract if the remaining cargo equipment cannot carry the required load.

For an unfamiliar region, one scout with useful recovery equipment and one appropriately configured transport truck can be more effective than moving several poorly prepared heavy vehicles at once.

SnowRunner Season 19: Switzerland

Season 19: Research & Restore takes place in Switzerland, across Grüntal Hollow, Schneetal, and Eiswandspitze. The starting map has damaged crossings and construction work that affect which cargo routes are practical.

If you’re starting the region, follow the Switzerland walkthrough to identify the early repairs, railway deliveries, and routes into the mountain maps.

Two recoverable trucks are also available. Old Reliable leads to the Wortek 250T in Grüntal Hollow, while Forgotten Ally awards the Derry Savior after its exploration prerequisite is completed in Eiswandspitze.

Returning to SnowRunner After a Break

When reopening an older save, start with the Global Map rather than immediately driving the vehicle you last used.

Check the region where you left unfinished work, the progress of its contracts and tasks, and whether you already have a suitable vehicle parked nearby. A previously repaired bridge, discovered cargo facility, or retained truck may change which job is now easiest to complete.

If you remember being stuck, identify the exact obstacle before continuing:

  • A locked contract may require another objective to be completed first.
  • A missing cargo item requires checking its pickup location and cargo equipment.
  • An inaccessible Garage or service facility may need exploration or a local restoration objective.
  • A vehicle that repeatedly gets stuck may need better equipment, a safer route, or a different recovery truck.

Choosing one obstacle to resolve gives you a clearer objective than collecting several unrelated contracts and moving between them without completing anything.

Once that obstacle is removed, return to the delivery or exploration task that originally brought you there. As your fleet and road access improve, contracts that were previously frustrating often become much more manageable.
