How Do You Please the Moon in R.E.P.O.?

Quick Answer

At an extraction point with yellow beams overhead, stack valuable objects from the floor until they reach the beam. Keep the tower stable and clear of nearby walls, then wait for The Moon Is Judging and The Moon Approves.

The yellow beams above the extraction point are not a height restriction. They mark a bonus challenge: build a tower of valuables high enough for the Moon to judge it.

A successful attempt can earn additional money on top of the ordinary extraction value. One Moon Judging sequence displayed +$13,090, alongside a separate +$800 indicator. This demonstrates the potential value of a successful stack, but it does not establish a fixed payout for every attempt.

The difficult part is not finding the beam. It is building something tall enough without destroying the loot you were already planning to sell. A tower can reach the right height and still fail because the objects move, collide with a nearby wall, or topple while extraction is underway.

What Do the Yellow Lasers at Extraction Mean?

The yellow beams are the height target for the Please the Moon challenge, which appears with the Moon Judging mechanic introduced during the Sunstone Update.

You can encounter these beams at ordinary extraction points, including outside Sunstone Valley Resort. They are not a requirement for entering the new resort, and failing to build a tower does not prevent normal extraction.

The yellow beam marks the height target for Moon Judging. Stack valuables toward this line to attempt the bonus challenge.

The challenge becomes relevant once you have brought valuables back to extraction and have enough suitable objects to build a pile. A single valuable placed normally in the extraction area may count toward the haul without reaching the Moon’s height requirement.

You need both a usable stack and a normal extraction objective that can be completed. Simply reaching the yellow light with an object does not replace the required haul value.

Does Moon Judging Work on Every Map?

Moon Judging has appeared during runs outside Sunstone Valley Resort. Look for the yellow beams at the extraction point rather than searching for a specific room inside the new map.

The level layout changes where you can place and balance objects. An extraction area with nearby walls, uneven flooring, or very little free space can make the challenge harder even when you have valuable items available.

How Do You Build a Tower That the Moon Accepts?

Start with the objects that are easiest to balance, not necessarily the most expensive.

A tall, narrow object can provide useful height, but a rounded or irregular shape may roll away before the stack is complete. Flat surfaces give you more control when placing another valuable on top.

A successful attempt generally follows this sequence:

  1. Bring suitable valuables to extraction. Look for objects with reasonably stable surfaces and enough combined height to reach the beam.
  2. Place a supporting valuable on the floor. Keep it away from walls and obstacles that could interfere with the stack.
  3. Add another valuable above it. Move the second object slowly and lower it until it rests on the first.
  4. Check the alignment and height. The pile must reach the yellow beam without toppling or resting awkwardly against the surrounding environment.
  5. Let the tower settle. Sudden corrections or continued pushing can ruin an otherwise usable arrangement.
  6. Complete the Moon’s judgement. Once the game recognizes the arrangement, watch for the approval message and the resulting rewards.

A tall stack reaches the Moon Judging area, with +$13,090 and +$800 displayed. Keep the arrangement stable while the judgement completes.

A particularly useful arrangement involved placing one large object as the support while another player helped position the upper object. The group lifted and balanced the pieces together, then stopped moving them when the Moon began judging.

That last moment matters. Once the stack reaches the required position, additional movement can knock it out of alignment before the result is decided.

Which Valuables Are Good for Stacking?

Several item combinations worked better than attempting to balance whatever happened to be closest to extraction.

Flat or box-shaped objects are practical foundations. An animal box, for example, was used as part of a stack with a harp. The players adjusted the harp’s orientation and considered adding a smaller object above it to reach the beam.

Guitars and other relatively flat objects can be arranged horizontally. One attempt involved laying guitars flat and placing smaller objects above them. The benefit is a wider contact surface, although the tower still needs enough overall height.

Cameras, VHS tapes, and similar smaller valuables can help complete a stack when larger objects leave a manageable surface at the top. During another attempt, a camera and VHS tape were used while the players worked on the tower’s stability and height.

Barrels and tall valuables can provide useful height, but a round object may be difficult to balance without another suitable shape beneath or above it.

The right combination depends on the loot available in that run. A high-value object with an awkward shape is not automatically better than two easier objects that can reach the beam without breaking.

What Do “The Moon Is Judging” and “The Moon Approves” Mean?

The Moon Is Judging means the game is evaluating your stack. Keep the valuables in position while the judgement is underway. The message alone does not mean you have earned the bonus.

The Moon Approves confirms a successful judgement. Pumpkin valuables can then appear around extraction, giving you additional loot to collect before finishing the haul.

This pumpkin displays a value of $3,500. Keep pumpkin valuables intact and bring them to extraction to collect their value.

A pumpkin showing $3,500 is worth protecting during the return to extraction. Collect the reward objects carefully rather than knocking them into other valuables or leaving them outside the extraction area.

How Much Bonus Money Does Moon Judging Give?

The reward depends on the valuables included in the accepted tower. A more valuable stack can produce a larger bonus, but reaching the yellow beam does not guarantee a fixed dollar amount.

The +$13,090 shown during a successful judgement illustrates how much additional value a tower can generate in one attempt. It should not be used as the expected payout for every extraction.

The exact percentage should not be treated as a guaranteed formula. More valuable objects can increase the potential reward, but the extra money is only worthwhile when the tower survives the judgement without destroying loot you would otherwise extract.

Can You Stack the Extraction Money Bag?

The money bag is tempting because it represents a substantial amount of value and can potentially provide enough height to reach the beam.

Attempts to balance it on top of other valuables proved difficult. In one run, the players repeatedly repositioned a large bag without obtaining the expected result and eventually abandoned the arrangement.

The bag’s eligibility for the bonus was not established by those attempts. Do not plan your entire stack around receiving an additional percentage of the money bag’s value.

For a dependable attempt, prioritize ordinary valuables that can be balanced and recognized by the challenge.

Why Is the Moon Not Approving Your Stack?

A tower that looks tall enough can still fail. The most common difficulty is maintaining a valid arrangement long enough for the judgement.

The Tower Reaches the Beam but Keeps Falling

Objects in R.E.P.O. react to collisions and movement. An uneven foundation can cause the upper items to lean and slide away.

One attempt used a camera and other small valuables to extend a tower, but the arrangement was unstable. Even when it appeared high enough, the players struggled to keep the objects in place.

Move the upper object back toward the center and reduce unnecessary height changes. A broader base is generally easier to work with than a tall item balancing on a narrow edge.

Small position adjustments are preferable to repeatedly pushing the entire tower.

The Stack Is Touching a Wall

A nearby wall can interfere with the arrangement.

During a failed attempt, players identified contact with surrounding walls or other objects as a reason the stack could be cancelled. The tower needed to stand on its own rather than being supported by part of the room.

Move the foundation farther into the usable extraction space and rebuild without leaning the valuable against nearby scenery.

Trying to force an oversized item between a wall and the beam can waste time, particularly when the object is difficult to rotate after it has been placed.

You Are Trying to Stack Inside the C.A.R.T.

The transport cart is useful for moving valuables back to extraction, but stacking them inside it is not a dependable method for completing Moon Judging.

During tower-building attempts, players specifically avoided relying on the C.A.R.T. as the supporting base and worked with valuables positioned from the floor upward.

Unload your chosen items before constructing the tower. Use the cart to deliver the materials, then build the actual stack in the extraction area.

The Stack Is Tall but the Wrong Objects Are Supporting It

Trying to extend a stack with an object that has no ordinary valuable value is an unreliable shortcut.

One attempt considered using a non-valuable object to reach the laser, but the players could not establish that it would count as part of a valid tower.

Build the stack with actual valuables. A shorter arrangement made from properly connected valuables is a better starting point than an improvised structure relying on environmental objects.

The Stack Breaks During Judgement

This is the most expensive failure.

One attempt involved several pumpkins and other valuables. The stack became unstable and a pumpkin broke, destroying part of the value the players had hoped to extract.

The failure matters because the bonus is optional. Valuable objects damaged during an unsuccessful attempt can make your final earnings worse than simply extracting them normally.

Before adding another item, consider whether the tower is stable enough to survive the next movement. If it is already shifting or leaning, correcting the foundation is safer than putting another expensive object on top.

Can You Start Moon Judging After Extraction Begins?

Players have worked on their towers while extraction was being initiated, but that introduces a timing problem.

In one successful attempt, two players coordinated the lift as extraction started. The tower reached the yellow beam, the Moon began judging, and the group received its bonus.

A different attempt became difficult because the extraction timer was advancing while the players were still trying to balance the objects.

Prepare the arrangement before starting the extraction sequence whenever possible. That gives you time to reposition the foundation and adjust the upper items without rushing.

Once the challenge is accepted, collect the pumpkins and finish the remaining extraction actions. Spending the entire extraction window trying to rescue an unstable tower risks losing the bonus as well as damaging ordinary valuables.

Is Moon Judging Worth Doing on Every Extraction?

Moon Judging is most attractive when your team already has objects that fit together naturally and the extraction area is relatively safe.

The difficult part is deciding when the extra reward stops being worth the work.

A team with two large, stable valuables and a short distance to the extraction point has a reasonable opportunity to try for the bonus. By contrast, a team handling fragile objects, active enemies, and a narrow extraction space may gain more by completing the ordinary haul immediately.

The following situations are worth considering before building:

  • Your haul quota is already covered: Attempt the bonus only while your remaining valuables are safe enough to risk.
  • Your best objects are fragile or badly damaged: An unstable tower can destroy value you would otherwise receive.
  • You have an awkward oversized item: Check whether it can be positioned without hitting walls or nearby objects.
  • Your team can coordinate the lift: A second player can help control a heavy or tall arrangement during placement.
  • Enemies are still approaching extraction: Defending the tower and keeping everyone alive takes priority over a speculative payout.

During one run, repeated stacking attempts became so troublesome that the players abandoned the tower and continued to the next extraction. That was a reasonable choice once further adjustments offered little benefit.

The same logic applies in Sunstone Valley Resort, where heavy crystals and dangerous passages can already make hauling difficult. When transporting valuables through the mining rooms is the immediate obstacle, use the Sunstone Valley Resort instructions to get them safely to extraction before attempting the bonus.

Moon Judging is a chance to improve a successful haul, not a substitute for completing one. Build a stable valuable tower, wait for approval, collect the pumpkins, and take the money. When the objects refuse to cooperate, finishing the ordinary extraction is still a successful outcome.
