Bookshop Simulator Achievements Guide: How to Complete All 74

I stack the longest counters in one main shop, finish manual checkouts before automation, and delay expensive cleanup until the 100,000-Blep milestone is safe.

Bookshop Simulator Achievements Guide: How to Complete All 74

Quick Answer

Bookshop Simulator has 74 Steam achievements in version 1.0. My lowest-rework route is to finish the 100 personal bookshop checkouts before permanently automating the register, run one main achievement shop for Cafe, recommendations, pets, Shop Level 50, and six active powers, reach a 100,000-Blep balance before expensive expansions, then clean up Flyers, Magazines, the first Mythical Book, and hidden achievements. The first Mythical is RNG-dependent, and the picket-line trigger has conflicting community reports, so I leave both until the deterministic counters are safe.

100% Completion at a Glance

QuestionAnswer
Total achievements74
Mechanical difficultyLow; the challenge is time, money order, and avoiding duplicated work
Reliable completion timeNot established yet because the first Mythical Book is random and the version 1.0 achievements are new
Multiplayer requiredNo achievement description requires multiplayer
Permanently missable achievementsNone confirmed; I still back up before hidden employee testing
RNG achievementOooo, shiny! — receive the first Mythical Book
Longest counters1,000 book boxes, Shop Level 50, Cafe Level 10, 500 drinks, and 100 recommendations
Manual counters100 bookshop checkouts and 100 Cafe checkouts must be completed personally
Recommended savesMain progression save plus a backup before the picket-line and cat-carrier tests
Multiplayer counter ownershipNot fully verified; perform important actions on the account that needs the achievement

Verification Labels I Use

  • Requirement confirmed: the achievement text gives an exact target.
  • Route recommended: the sequence is my efficiency route rather than a hidden game rule.
  • Personally observed: I reproduced the action or unlock in version 1.0.
  • RNG-dependent: the attempt can fail even when the correct system is used.
  • Not yet reproduced in version 1.0: the method is community-reported and clearly labeled.

Optimal Achievement Roadmap

PhaseMain targetsDo not do yet
Early shopTutorial, first purchases, 25/50/100 personal checkouts, first employeeDo not permanently give the main register to a Cashier
Growth100/1,000 sales, book-box counters, Used Book Boxes, licenses, 10k/50k/100kDo not grind boxes faster than the shop can sort and sell them
Main achievement shopCafe, recommendations, pets, Shop Level 25/50, Player Level 50Do not split every long counter across four half-developed shops
LocationsParis, Yamanashi, Cotswolds, all store and storage expansionsDo not spend below the 100,000-Blep milestone before it unlocks
CleanupFlyers, Magazine purchase, six powers, Mythical, hidden achievementsDo not risk the main save before making a backup

The roadmap is intentionally short. The detailed sections below explain each group once rather than repeating the same route in several summaries.

Finish the Manual Checkout Achievements Before Automation

Status: Requirement confirmed; route recommended.

The three bookshop checkout achievements are:

  • Cashier — check out 25 customers yourself;
  • If you want something done right… — check out 50 yourself;
  • I need a new auto button… — check out 100 yourself.

The word yourself is the important restriction.

A Cashier can keep the shop profitable, but employee transactions do not replace my personal counter. I therefore keep one working register under my control until the 100-customer achievement unlocks.

My route is:

  1. Complete the tutorial.
  2. Use the main register personally.
  3. Let an employee handle restocking or secondary work first.
  4. Check progress after the 25 and 50 milestones.
  5. Finish 100 personal transactions.
  6. Only then move a Cashier permanently onto the main register.

In multiplayer, I do not assume a guest transaction advances the host’s personal counter or the reverse. The account that needs the achievement should operate the register.

Stack Sales, Book Boxes, and Used Book Boxes

Status: Requirements confirmed; route recommended.

These counters grow naturally together:

CounterAchievements
Books soldSilver Tongue at 100; Sales Master at 1,000
Book boxes purchasedYour First Books; Fill Those Shelves! at 50; Business is Good! at 1,000
Used Book BoxesOne man’s trash is another man’s treasure at 1; Economical at 10; Collector at 30

I do not buy 1,000 boxes as a blind late-game spam session.

Every normal stock cycle can advance:

  • box purchases;
  • total book sales;
  • Player Level;
  • Shop Level;
  • money;
  • employee experience;
  • Cafe and recommendation traffic if those systems are in the same location.

My stopping rule is simple:

When unopened boxes, unsorted Used Books, or full storage begin slowing sales, I stop buying and clear the current batch.

The 30 Used Book Box achievement is small compared with the 1,000-box total. I complete it through controlled batches so Rare and Legendary results never become floor clutter.

Complete the Money Milestones Before Expensive Cleanup

Status: Requirements confirmed.

The money achievements use the current balance:

  • Successful startup — hold 10,000 Bleps;
  • I’m rich! — hold 50,000 Bleps;
  • Swimming in cash — hold 100,000 Bleps.

My sequence is:

  1. Build a stable main shop.
  2. Pause decorative and optional expansion spending.
  3. Let the balance cross 10,000 and 50,000 naturally.
  4. Continue until 100,000 is visibly held.
  5. Wait for the achievement.
  6. Resume location expansions, Cafe spending, and Mythical attempts.

This avoids the worst financial backtrack in the list: spending heavily on expansions and then discovering that the 100,000 requirement checks the current balance rather than lifetime earnings.

Unlock Products and Complete the Four Book Series

Status: Achievement requirements confirmed; exact series title list cross-checked against the current in-game book list.

The basic license achievements are:

  • Book Gatherer — unlock 10 books;
  • Book Hoarder — unlock 25 books;
  • Book Dragon — unlock 50 books;
  • Game Night! — unlock and buy a Board Game;
  • Hook ‘em while they’re young! — unlock and buy a Children’s Book;
  • Concession Stand — unlock and buy Candy;
  • Kapow! — unlock and buy a Comic;
  • The manga was better… — unlock and buy Manga;
  • Tabloids? In my store? — unlock and buy a Magazine.

For every “unlock and buy” achievement, I treat the process as two separate checks:

  1. unlock the license;
  2. confirm a real order.

The four series achievements require every title in that parody series.

Harry Fodder Series

For You’re a bookshop owner, Harry., unlock:

  1. Harry Fodder and the Wizard’s Gem
  2. Harry Fodder and the Dungeon of Truths
  3. Harry Fodder and the Warden of Alkazar
  4. Harry Fodder and the Chalice of Flame
  5. Harry Fodder and the League of the Sphinx
  6. Harry Fodder and the Lowborn King
  7. Harry Fodder and the Master Relics

Lord of the Bling Series

For My precious!, unlock:

  1. The Fellowship of the Bling
  2. The Two Spires
  3. The Return of the Bling King

Quart Series

For A faerie court, unlock:

  1. A Quart of Horns and Poses
  2. A Quart of Fog and Rage
  3. A Quart of Flight and Waste

Fogborn Series

For Read And Find Out, unlock:

  1. Fogborn
  2. The Pit of Descension
  3. The Evil of Eternity

I use the License menu as the final check. Owning one copy or selling one title is not the same as unlocking every license in the set.

Combine Employee and Level Achievements

Status: Requirements confirmed; employee unlock levels can vary with multiplayer scaling.

The employee achievements are:

  • I need some help — hire the first employee;
  • Teamwork makes the dream work — hire 10 employees total;
  • Some training may be in order — promote an employee.

I do not rush to ten employees in an undeveloped shop. I hire when a repeated job is already consuming time, then distribute later hires across the locations I am completing anyway.

For the promotion achievement:

  1. Keep an employee working long enough to become eligible.
  2. Open the employee management screen.
  3. Review the promotion trade-off.
  4. Confirm one promotion.
Employee promotion screen in Bookshop Simulator
I promote one eligible employee for Some training may be in order, then continue developing the same staff while the long shop and Cafe counters run.

Do Not Mix Up Player Level and Shop Level

AchievementRequirementBest route
Little Shop of WondersAny shop reaches Shop Level 25Keep one main achievement shop active
BibliophileAny shop reaches Shop Level 50Combine with Cafe, recommendations, pets, and the six-power setup
LectiophileReach Player Level 50Continue normal business across all locations

Player Level 50 and Shop Level 50 are separate goals.

Player Level follows the account-wide progression and also opens the late Mythical system.

Shop Level belongs to an individual location. I concentrate activity in one main shop instead of spreading the final level grind evenly across every location.

Finish Cafe Achievements Before Fully Automating the Cafe

Status: Requirements confirmed; route recommended.

The Cafe achievements are:

  • Barista — check out the first Cafe customer yourself;
  • Multi-tasker Extraordinaire! — check out 100 Cafe customers yourself;
  • You’re just keeping it? — collect the first tip;
  • The Caffeine Must Flow — sell 100 drinks;
  • He who controls the caffeine controls the universe. — sell 500 drinks;
  • Delicacy — sell 100 pastries;
  • Beyond Books — reach Cafe Level 5;
  • Jack of All Trades or Master of Two? — reach Cafe Level 10.

The Cafe has the same automation trap as the bookstore.

I let staff help with preparation, but I continue completing Cafe checkout transactions myself until the 100-customer counter is done.

My route is:

  1. Open the Cafe in the main achievement shop.
  2. Complete the first Cafe checkout personally.
  3. Keep drinks and pastries stocked.
  4. Collect the first available tip.
  5. Continue personal checkout until 100.
  6. Let the 100-drink, 500-drink, 100-pastry, Level 5, and Level 10 counters grow together.
  7. Fully automate only after the personal counter is safe.
Collecting Cafe tips in Bookshop Simulator
The first tip is a separate achievement from Cafe sales. I collect it as soon as the tip container has money rather than waiting until the Cafe grind is finished.

I avoid building four weak Cafes. One active Cafe reaching Level 10 is more useful than splitting sales across several locations that never approach the final milestone.

Stack Every Pet Counter in One Main Shop

Status: Requirements confirmed.

The pet achievements are:

  • Furrever Home — adopt the first pet;
  • All the beans! — adopt five pets;
  • They’re so fluffy! — pet a cat 20 times;
  • Well Hydrated — refill a water bowl 25 times;
  • I can see the bottom…I’ll surely starve soon — refill a food bowl 25 times;
  • They still worship me — clean a litter box 25 times.

I place most pet activity in the shop where I spend the longest sessions.

That keeps the food, water, litter, and petting counters visible instead of forcing travel between locations.

My routine is:

  1. Check food and water before opening.
  2. Clean litter whenever it is available.
  3. Pet the cats during quiet moments.
  4. Avoid replacing every bowl early just because it is partially used.
  5. Let the three 25-action maintenance counters grow over many normal days.

The maintenance achievements count actions, so a completely automated or rarely visited pet location is a poor place to finish them.

Finish Recommendations in the Same High-Traffic Shop

Status: Requirements confirmed.

The recommendation chain is:

  • I think you’ll like this — recommend one book;
  • I’m starting a book club — recommend 10;
  • Staff picks — recommend 50;
  • Book reviewer — recommend 100.

I place the Customer Service Desk in the main achievement shop after checkout and stock are stable.

My best recommendation sessions are the ones where:

  • many licenses are available;
  • shelves are actually stocked;
  • the recommendation queue is separated from checkout;
  • another player or employee protects the rest of the business.

I do not chase the 100 recommendations in a shop with only two book categories. More available titles make it easier to satisfy requests without repeatedly failing the interaction.

Buy Every Location and Separate Store from Storage Expansions

Status: Requirements confirmed.

There are three location-purchase achievements:

  • Bonjour! — buy Paris;
  • Konnichiwa! — buy Yamanashi;
  • Hope you packed a jacket! — buy The Cotswolds.

Each location also has store-expansion goals, while version 1.0 adds or tracks separate storage completion for several locations.

LocationStore expansion achievementStorage expansion achievement
LyonTime to move!Still a little cramped back here
YamanashiA New StoryJapan Storage
ParisBeauty is the Beast of a BookstoreBook Warehouse
The CotswoldsEngland ShopEngland Storage

Completing the visible selling area does not automatically finish storage.

My location route is:

  1. Reach the 100,000-Blep balance milestone.
  2. Buy the remaining locations.
  3. Develop only enough space to keep each shop functional.
  4. Complete store expansions by location.
  5. Recheck the separate storage menu.
  6. Finish every storage expansion independently.

For the Cotswolds price, layout, Magazine system, and expansion priorities, I use the dedicated Cotswolds Guide.

Hand Out 1, 25, 50, and 100 Flyers

Status: Requirements confirmed; first-flyer interaction personally observed.

The Flyer achievements are:

  • I think you’ll like this place! — hand out the first Flyer;
  • Grassroots Marketing — hand out 25;
  • Sweaty Marketer — hand out 50;
  • Better than a sign spinner — hand out 100.

Flyers must be handed to pedestrians manually.

Player handing a Flyer to a pedestrian outside the Cotswolds bookshop
I carry Flyers outside and hand them to pedestrians manually. This image shows the interaction, not an achievement popup.

My route is:

  1. Place the Flyer Stand close to the entrance.
  2. Pick up the Flyer stack.
  3. Start at the beginning of the pedestrian route.
  4. Offer one Flyer to each eligible person.
  5. Return inside when checkout, deliveries, or stock need attention.
  6. Resume during the next quiet period.

Not every pedestrian accepts, and an accepted Flyer is not a guaranteed immediate sale.

In solo play, I farm in short bursts.

In multiplayer, one player can protect current sales while another handles Flyers. I still perform the action on the Steam account that needs the achievement because host and guest counter ownership is not fully verified.

Unlock and Buy the First Magazine

Status: Requirement confirmed; purchase trigger personally observed.

Tabloids? In my store? requires me to unlock and buy any Magazine.

The license unlock alone did not complete it in my test.

Magazine license requiring Cotswolds Shop Level 12
The Magazine license is only the first step. I still confirm a real Magazine order before expecting Tabloids? In my store? to unlock.

My sequence is:

  1. Reach Cotswolds Shop Level 12.
  2. Unlock one Magazine license.
  3. Buy and place the Magazine Shelf.
  4. Confirm an actual Magazine order.
  5. Wait for the purchase to register.
Magazine Shelf placed inside the Cotswolds bookshop
I place the Magazine Shelf before ordering. The screenshot documents the product setup rather than claiming to show an achievement notification.

In my test, the achievement appeared after the first Magazine purchase was confirmed, not when the license screen changed.

Activate One, Three, and Six Special-Book Powers

Status: One- and three-power requirements confirmed; six-power setup observed through the version 1.0 display system.

The power achievements are:

  • What does this do? — activate the first Legendary Book;
  • More power! — activate three Legendary Books at once;
  • These stack, right? — activate six Legendary or Mythical Books at once.

The books must be in active displays.

A Personal Shelf stores a book but does not run its power.

For three powers, I combine the original pedestal with the later two-slot display.

For six powers, version 1.0 adds another three-slot display. In my Cotswolds save, that display was locked behind Shop Level 50.

Three-slot Legendary and Mythical display locked behind Cotswolds Shop Level 50
In my Cotswolds save, the three-slot display required Shop Level 50. Together with the earlier three active slots, it supports the six-power achievement.

My six-power troubleshooting check is:

  1. Use one shop.
  2. Fill every active slot.
  3. Confirm none of the books are sitting on Personal Shelves.
  4. Use any mixture of Legendary and Mythical Books.
  5. Remove and replace one book if the achievement does not register immediately.

The full power list and switching route are in the Legendary and Mythical Books Guide.

Receive the First Mythical Book

Status: RNG-dependent.

Oooo, shiny! requires an actual Mythical Book.

Unlocking the Mythical box, buying it, or receiving Rare Books does not complete the achievement.

In my version 1.0 save:

  • the Mythical Used Book Box unlocked at Player Level 50;
  • it cost 5,000 Bleps;
  • the box warned that Mythical Books are extremely rare and cannot be sold;
  • my first confirmed attempt produced Rare Books but no Mythical.
Mythical Used Book Box warning that Mythical Books are extremely rare and cannot be sold
A 5,000-Blep purchase is only an attempt. Oooo, shiny! unlocks after receiving a real Mythical Book, not after buying the box.

I leave this achievement late because the result is random.

Before each attempt, I protect:

  • ordinary stock;
  • payroll;
  • the next refill;
  • required expansion money;
  • a 5,000-Blep failure reserve.

I do not sacrifice deterministic progress for repeated Mythical rolls.

Hidden Achievements

Not a friend

Requirement: Throw away a book.

Status: Community method established; use the specific fallback below if a Used Book does not work.

My reliable route is:

  1. Buy or take one ordinary new book as a separate item.
  2. Make sure it is no longer inside a delivery box.
  3. Carry it to a trash can.
  4. Throw away the individual book.

A normal Used Book may fail to trigger for some players.

When the achievement does not appear, I use a standard new book taken from a shelf or opened stock box rather than repeating the same Used Book attempt.

Don’t cross the picket line

Requirement: Cause a picket line through my actions.

Status: Not yet reproduced in version 1.0; community reports conflict.

One Steam guide reports that employees can begin the picket line after one missed payday.

A separate discussion reports seven unpaid days.

Because the timing is disputed, I use a controlled test:

  1. Create a backup.
  2. Choose a nonessential active shop with at least one employee.
  3. Stop paying employee wages.
  4. Continue ending days until employees form a line outside.
  5. Record whether it began after one missed day or a longer delay.
  6. Pay the outstanding wages after the achievement unlocks.

I do not run this test in a passive shop because passive-income calculations can cover staff expenses automatically.

I’m already in a carrier…

Requirement: Attempt to box up a cat that is already in its carrier.

Status: Community method established.

Using the default controls:

  1. Buy a new cat.
  2. Go to the cat while it is still in the delivery carrier outside the store.
  3. Press G to pick up the cat box.
  4. Press B to attempt to box it again.
  5. The game rejects the action because the cat is already packaged and unlocks the achievement.

I do this before releasing or moving the new cat.

Remapped controls may display different keys, so I follow the on-screen pickup and package prompts when G or B has been changed.

Achievement Not Unlocking?

My personal checkout counter is not increasing

I operate the register myself.

Cashier transactions and another player’s transactions are not a safe substitute for a personal achievement counter.

I unlocked a Magazine license but got no achievement

I confirm a real Magazine order.

The requirement says unlock and buy, and my test did not complete at the license step.

I threw away a Used Book but got no achievement

I use a separate ordinary new book.

I remove it from its box or shelf, carry the individual item, and throw that into the trash.

I placed six special books but got no achievement

I check that:

  • all six are in active display slots;
  • they are in the same shop;
  • none are on Personal Shelves;
  • the displayed total includes Legendary or Mythical Books only.

Then I remove and replace one active book.

I bought a Mythical box but got no achievement

The box did not produce a Mythical Book.

Rare results are valid failed rolls and do not satisfy Oooo, shiny!.

A Flyer milestone is not increasing

I hand Flyers to pedestrians rather than leaving the Flyer Stand outside.

The stand stores the Flyers; the manual handoff advances the counter.

An old save did not unlock a version 1.0 achievement automatically

I re-trigger the required action:

  • buy one Magazine;
  • hand out one additional Flyer;
  • remove and replace one active special book;
  • purchase the remaining expansion;
  • complete one more counted action.

I do not assume every new achievement scans all old statistics immediately.

The achievement appeared late

I finish the current interaction, allow the game to save, and check Steam again after returning to the menu.

I avoid repeating an expensive action until I have confirmed the first attempt truly failed.

Last Achievements to Check

The achievements most likely to remain after normal progression are:

  1. Business is Good! — 1,000 book boxes;
  2. Book reviewer — 100 recommendations;
  3. the three 25-action pet maintenance counters;
  4. Better than a sign spinner — 100 Flyers;
  5. Oooo, shiny! — the RNG Mythical drop;
  6. Don’t cross the picket line — the controlled hidden test.

I check these six before starting a new save or dismantling the main achievement shop.

FAQ

Do employee checkouts count toward the 100 manual checkout achievement? +

No. The achievement specifically requires you to check out customers yourself. I finish the 25, 50, and 100 personal checkout milestones before permanently handing the main register to a Cashier.

Why did the Magazine achievement not unlock after I bought the license? +

The license alone was not enough in my test. I had to confirm an actual Magazine order. I also place the Magazine Shelf first so the delivery does not arrive without a usable display.

Can the six-power achievement use both Legendary and Mythical Books? +

Yes. The requirement counts six active Legendary or Mythical Books in total. A mixed set works, but all six must occupy active display slots in the same shop.

What should I do before testing the picket-line achievement? +

Create a backup and use a nonessential active shop. Community reports disagree on whether the line begins after one missed payday or after seven unpaid days, so I do not test it in the shop carrying my main progression.

Do Flyers run out while farming the 100-Flyer achievement? +

The Flyer stack did not run out in my test, and I could return it to the stand. The real limit was time away from checkout, stock, and recommendations.

Do multiplayer guests receive the same achievement progress as the host? +

I have not verified every host and guest counter. For personal checkouts, Flyers, Magazine purchases, and hidden actions, I perform the required action on the Steam account that needs the achievement.
