The Tallest Tower: A Hero Reborn

"This chapter is a gating unlock: a short quest chain for the Hotstone, then a vertical tower route that culminates in reviving Sir Mervyn. Most players don’t fail combat here — they fail triggers."

🗿

Speedrun Route: Hotstone → Tower → Mervyn

Step 01 Trigger the Quest

Emberdale (Present) → talk to Palmela → go to King Donald (Estard) for permission → return to Palmela for Kindling Water.

Step 02 Burnmont Summit

Climb Burnmont (Present) → use Kindling Water at the magma setpiece → obtain Hotstone.

Step 03 Unlock the Tower

Fly to the Tallest Tower west of Wetlock → use Hotstone at the entrance. If it doesn’t open, you’re missing the permission flag.

Step 04 Revive Sir Mervyn

Reach summit statue → interact → cutscene triggers → Sir Mervyn joins.

1 Hotstone Trigger Chain (Present): Palmela → King → Kindling Water

The Hotstone quest is a three-flag chain. Most “stuck” reports happen because players do steps out of order.

Correct Order

  1. Talk to Palmela in Emberdale (Present).
  2. Talk to King Donald in Estard about the Hotstone.
  3. Return to Palmela to receive Kindling Water.

Most common failure

Visiting Burnmont before the King Donald permission dialogue. You’ll reach the setpiece and nothing meaningful will happen.

Tip: If Palmela’s dialogue feels “generic,” you likely haven’t triggered the King flag. Do Estard first, then return.

🧭 Decision Module: Tower Climb Style

Tallest Tower is an “elevator maze.” Your choice is whether you route it for consistency (recommended) or speed. The tower rarely kills you — attrition and getting turned around does.

Goal
Summit statue without wasting time.

Plan A: Safe & Oriented

Recommended
  • Follow primary “carpet/path” lines whenever possible.
  • Each floor: find the “center elevator” first, then branch.
  • If you hit a loop, backtrack to the last elevator you used (don’t brute-force).

Plan B: Fast & Direct

Speedrun
  • Ignore side loops completely; treat the tower like a straight climb.
  • When you see a choice, take the route that returns you to a central platform.
  • If encounters are heavy, consider repel/avoid tools if available.

2 Burnmont Summit (Present): Obtain the Hotstone

Burnmont is straightforward mechanically — the only real fail condition is arriving without the correct quest item.

🔥

Hotstone pickup rule

You must use Kindling Water at the magma setpiece to reveal the Hotstone. If nothing triggers, you’re missing the permission flag (King Donald).

3 Tallest Tower (Present): Elevator Maze Routing

There’s no signature boss here — the “boss” is navigation. Route by anchors: carpet lines, central platforms, and elevator positions.

Navigation anchor

If you see a “central elevator” style platform, treat it like a save point: clear nearby branches, then commit upward.

Encounter management

Random encounters can spike. If you’re burning healing every 2 fights, you’re losing time — stabilize and push when HP/MP are healthy.

4 Summit: Revive Sir Mervyn

At the summit, interact with the statue while you have the Hotstone. The game treats this as a hard gate for party progression.

Practical note: Sir Mervyn arrives as a “plug-and-play” frontliner. If you’re unsure where to slot him, replace your weakest physical role first.

🧭 Missable Recovery: If You’re Stuck

Fast “fix order”
Can’t get Kindling Water

Go Estard → talk to King Donald about Hotstone → return to Palmela. If you skipped the King dialogue, Palmela won’t advance.

Tower door won’t open

Confirm you actually obtained Hotstone (not just the water), then re-check the quest flags: Palmela first, King second, Palmela third.

⚠️ Troubleshooting Database

“Palmela won’t give me the water”

Cause: You didn’t trigger the permission flag with King Donald.
Fix: Estard → King Donald (Hotstone dialogue) → return to Palmela.

“I used the water but didn’t get Hotstone”

Cause: Wrong location / setpiece not reached / flags incomplete.
Fix: Confirm you’re at Burnmont summit magma interaction, then re-check Palmela → King → Palmela chain.

“I’m looping on the tower floors”

Fix: Stop brute-forcing. Backtrack to the last elevator platform, then look for a central route (carpet/path anchor) that leads upward.

❓ Tallest Tower FAQ

Common pain points
Do I need to do Emberdale first? Open
Yes — the Hotstone chain starts with Palmela in Emberdale. Without that flag, the rest won’t advance properly.
Why won’t the tower entrance open? Open
Either you don’t have the Hotstone yet, or you skipped the King Donald permission dialogue (quest flag missing).
Is there a boss in Tallest Tower? Open
Not a signature boss fight — navigation and encounters are the real challenge. The payoff is reviving Sir Mervyn.
