Al-Balad: Sands of Time

"This chapter is less about raw combat and more about routing: grab the Storeroom shard, path the Temple Palace efficiently, then use Serpent’s Square to push the timeline forward. The Present-day sweep is where players miss fragments."

🏺

Speedrun Route: Desert Dash

Step 01 Storeroom First

Past Al-Balad → go straight to Storeroom Basement. Secure the Red Fragment before you commit to long dungeon routing.

Step 02 Temple Palace B1

Temple Palace (Past) → descend efficiently → grab the B1 Yellow Fragment. Don’t leave without it; backtracking here is slow.

Step 03 Serpent’s Square

Use Serpent’s Square to advance the story flag. If you’re stuck later, 90% of the time it’s because this puzzle wasn’t “fully confirmed”.

Step 04 Present Sweep (3 stops)

Present Al-Balad Urn → Present Temple Palace L1 → Al-Shallal cave. This route minimizes travel and avoids missing the “?” fragment.

1 Al-Balad Setup (Past): Your “Don’t-Miss” Start

Al-Balad’s Past timeline is designed to bait you into heading for the Temple immediately. Resist that urge: this chapter is smoother when you lock down the early shard and items first.

Priority Objective

Hit the Storeroom basement first. It’s fast, safe, and it removes the biggest “I forgot a shard” risk in the chapter.

Loot Callout

Storeroom (Past) → Basement: Red Fragment. Grab it now so you can route Temple Palace with no backtrack pressure.

Mindset tip: This region’s difficulty is navigation + confirmation triggers, not raw stats. If you’re “stuck”, assume a story flag wasn’t completed (usually Serpent’s Square).

🧭 Decision Module: Temple Palace Route

Temple Palace is the “time sink” dungeon. Choose a routing style: safe + systematic (recommended) or fast + direct. Mixing styles is how people miss B1.

Goal
Exit with the B1 Yellow Fragment.

Plan A: Safe & Complete

Recommended
  • Mentally split Temple into “levels”: clear one level, then commit down.
  • Confirm B1 shard before any “boss-ish” doorway or setpiece.
  • If you see branching paths, take the one that looks like a dead end first (usually hides loot).

Plan B: Fast & Direct

Speedrun
  • Beeline to B1 routes; ignore side rooms unless you’re shard-checking.
  • The moment you grab B1, path back up—don’t “maybe later”.
  • If you leave without B1, you lose more time backtracking than you saved.

2 Temple Palace (Past): B1 Shard Checkpoint

Temple Palace is where the region “feels like a dungeon chapter”. Your only mandatory collectible in the Past here is the Yellow Fragment on B1.

🧩

Shard Reminder

Temple Palace (Past) → Basement Level 1: Yellow Fragment. If you’re unsure whether you picked it up, do NOT push further — go confirm now.

Route discipline: in long dungeons, “I’ll grab it on the way out” is the #1 cause of missed fragments. Treat B1 as a checkpoint: shard first, story second.

3 Serpent’s Square: Puzzle Confirmation

Serpent’s Square is a progression gate disguised as “optional mystery”. The game expects you to complete + confirm the puzzle state — not just “interact once”.

What you’re checking The puzzle should visibly “resolve” (animation/confirmation change) before you leave.
Common mistake Players leave after the first interaction and wonder why the Present doesn’t update.
Fast fix Return, re-check every interaction prompt, rotate camera, and look for the final “state change”.

4 Present Day Cleanup: 3 Stops, 3 Fragments

After the Past timeline is resolved, the Present becomes a cleanup sweep. Do the stops in this order to minimize travel and avoid the most missed shard.

Stop 1
Al-Balad (Present) → Giant Urn: go inside for a Yellow Fragment. This is quick and sets your “present sweep rhythm”.
Stop 2
Temple Palace (Present) → Level 1 north-center room: Red Fragment. If you already hate this dungeon, this is the fastest entry/exit route.
Stop 3
Al-Shallal (Present) → Waterfall cave interior: near the entrance you can spot a ? Fragment. This is the most commonly missed pickup.

🧭 Missable Recovery: If You Left & Returned Later

Fast backtrack plan
If you’re at 4/5

Most likely you missed Al-Shallal. Go Present → waterfall cave → check near the entrance. It’s easy to walk past if you’re sprinting.

If you’re missing a Past shard

Check Storeroom basement (Red) first, then Temple B1 (Yellow). Those are the two “early commitments” that punish skipping.

⚠️ Troubleshooting Database

“Present didn’t change / nothing progressed”

Cause: Serpent’s Square wasn’t fully confirmed (left mid-puzzle).
Fix: Return to the square and re-check interaction prompts until the state visibly resolves.

“Where is Al-Shallal entrance?”

Fix: It’s reached via water travel on the world map in the Present timeline. If you’re walking in circles, you’re likely on the wrong map layer.

“I hate Temple Palace, can I skip it?”

Answer: You can minimize it, but you can’t skip the shard routes. Use the decision module above and treat B1 as a checkpoint objective.

❓ Al-Balad FAQ (Common Questions)

Quick answers for common pain points
Why didn’t the Present change after I finished the Past? Open
This region often fails to “update” because Serpent’s Square wasn’t fully confirmed. Go back, re-check every interaction prompt, and don’t leave until you see a clear “state change” moment.
I’m at 4/5 fragments — which one is usually missing? Open
Most players miss the Al-Shallal “?” fragment because it’s close to the cave entrance and easy to sprint past. Do a quick Present-day sweep: Urn → Temple L1 → Al-Shallal cave.
Do I need to fully clear Temple Palace in the Past? Open
You can minimize exploration, but you should treat B1 as mandatory. Grab the Past B1 Yellow Fragment before any major story push. Backtracking here costs more time than it saves.
Where is Al-Shallal and how do I reach it? Open
Al-Shallal is reached via water travel on the world map in the Present timeline. If you can’t find it by walking, you’re likely on the wrong map layer or route — switch to the water path first.
