Quick Answer

For my first Dimhaven - The Lost Source run, I use this page as the route hub. I start with the Visa Office, recover the passport from the bird, grab the early camera photos, then move through Hotel Sárkány, the cable car, Raven’s Nest, and late puzzle cleanup. If I get stuck, I jump to the exact puzzle page instead of reading a full walkthrough.

Dimhaven - The Lost Source is easiest when I treat each area as a clue chain instead of a room full of random objects.

The first area already teaches that rule. I can see the passport, the survey machine, the ticket gate, the Visa Office, the camera, a phone, a generator, a locked office, and a bird that will not cooperate. If I chase all of those at once, the route feels messy. If I follow the chain in order, the Landing Bay becomes much cleaner.

Dimhaven opening area after the bird steals the passport
The first real problem is the passport. Once the bird takes it, I treat the Landing Bay as one route: ticket, camera, office, bird, and final checkpoint.

Start here: which guide should I use?

Use this hub when you know you are stuck, but you are not sure which puzzle is actually blocking you.

First 30 minutes: my clean opening route

My early route is:

  1. Finish the mandatory survey.
  2. Take the visa application ticket.
  3. Use the ticket at the gate.
  4. Pick up the camera.
  5. Check the Landing Bay photo challenge list.
  6. Read the Visa Office notes.
  7. Open Steve’s upside-down box.
  8. Use the clue that points to the office key under the mat.
  9. Work toward getting the passport back from the bird.
  10. Return to the final visa checkpoint only after the passport route is ready.
Dimhaven visa application ticket after the mandatory survey
I do not leave the survey machine until I have the visa application ticket. This ticket is part of the first checkpoint chain.

The important habit is simple: I do not rush the final checkpoint. If the machine keeps rejecting me, I step back and ask which part of the first route is unfinished. Usually I have missed a small clue or object, not a giant hidden mechanic.

The camera and photo list matter early

The camera looks like a side tool at first, but I treat it as an early route item. It helps with clues, and it also starts the Landing Bay photo challenge route.

There are 10 photo challenges in the Landing Bay:

  • A Beautiful Picture
  • Someone’s Dinner
  • A Horrible Selfie
  • Something Locked. From The Inside.
  • Captain’s Pipe
  • A Rebel
  • Zack’s House
  • Someone’s Lunch
  • A Sleepy Cat
  • Someone’s Breakfast

I do not need to finish every photo before touching the Visa Office, but I check the list early. Some photos are tied to later route states, so the smart move is to know the list now and clean it up as the Landing Bay loop opens.

Dimhaven Landing Bay photo challenge list
The photo list is the early collectible checklist. Several names point to small objects or route states, not big landmarks.

For exact locations, use the Photo Challenge Locations Guide.

Visa Office: do not force the final machine early

The Visa Office route is where I expect most players to get stuck first.

The trap is that the final checkpoint is visible before the full route is ready. I can reach machines, read signs, press buttons, and still be missing the actual requirement chain. When that happens, I stop testing the final machine and go back through the route.

The early checks I use are:

  • Did I take the visa application ticket after the survey?
  • Did I use the ticket at the gate?
  • Did I pick up the camera?
  • Did I read the counter note near the Visa Office?
  • Did I open Steve’s upside-down box?
  • Did I use the clue that points to the office key under the mat?
  • Did I recover the passport from the bird?
  • Did I complete the blue typewriter visa step before the final checkpoint?

This is the kind of clue I do not ignore. If the office is still locked, I stop testing machines and go check the mat at the office door.

If that list sounds like the wall in front of you, use the Visa Puzzle Solution.

Route order after the first area

Once I leave the Visa Office loop, I still try to move in a clean order. Dimhaven rewards patience more than random wandering.

Route phaseWhat I focus onWhen I move on
Landing BaySurvey, ticket, camera, passport bird, early photosThe final checkpoint lets me leave with the passport
Hotel SárkányLocal clues, power, hotel systems, next access pointThis Is Marvelous! unlocks after Hotel Sárkány power is restored
Cable car routeReaching Raven’s Nest instead of rechecking the town foreverToo Lazy To Climb unlocks after I ride the cable car
Raven’s Nest and late routesZack’s deeper clues, facility access, recordings, late puzzle chainsI have a clear new clue, key item, or route milestone before backtracking
CleanupPhoto challenges, secret facility, JadeHawk, Mask Shrine, endingI know whether I am solving a puzzle, cleaning up achievements, or finishing the story
Dimhaven cable car route toward Raven's Nest
The cable car is a route milestone. Once I can ride up, I stop treating the first area as the whole game.

When I backtrack

Backtracking is useful in Dimhaven, but only when I have a reason.

I backtrack when I have:

  • a new key;
  • a new card;
  • a machine that now has power;
  • a clue that names a place;
  • a photo challenge name that clearly matches an object I passed;
  • a route milestone such as the cable car, Raven’s Nest, the secret facility, or a newly opened passage.

I do not backtrack just because a door exists. If a door has no new clue attached to it, I mark it mentally and keep moving. That keeps the run from turning into random handle-pulling.

Achievements: clean up after the route makes sense

Dimhaven has 8 Steam achievements, so I do not play the first hour like a pure achievement hunt.

The early achievements to watch are:

  • Aww… You Were Just Hungry — retrieve your passport from the bird.
  • Squeaky Clean — completely clean the dirty camera window.
  • A Keen Eye For Detail — complete all Landing Bay photo challenges.

The midgame route achievements are:

  • This Is Marvelous! — restore power to Hotel Sárkány.
  • Too Lazy To Climb — ride in the cable car.

The late cleanup achievements are:

  • This Is No Office — visit the secret facility.
  • True Zadbox Master — finish Level 1 of JadeHawk without bug abusing.
  • I Am Ready — finish the game.
Dimhaven Zadbox JadeHawk Level 1 achievement route
Zadbox is not just a joke console. I save True Zadbox Master for achievement cleanup because it has a specific no-bug-abuse requirement.

For the full checklist, use the Dimhaven Achievements Guide.

Kitchen cabinets: use the A-N output labels

The kitchen cabinets puzzle should not be mixed with unrelated document clues or later converter rules.

The board uses A-N output labels. The successful final state is:

Open: B, C, D, F, H, K, M, N
Closed: A, E, G, I, J, L

After setting the cabinet state, I pull the kitchen switch. The hidden passage opening is the success sign.

Dimhaven kitchen cabinets final open and closed state
This puzzle is easier when I use the A-N output labels from the board instead of blindly counting drawers.

For the exact cabinet state and troubleshooting, use the Kitchen Cabinets Final State Solution.

Mask Shrine: read The Dreamer from the right perspective

Some players may call this the Mask Wall puzzle, but the safer name is Mask Shrine.

The core clue is The Dreamer:

  • The Dreamer faces the Moon.
  • Earth is on his right.
  • The Sun is on his left.
  • The Moon swallows the Sun.
  • Find the end and press the Moon.
Dimhaven The Dreamer clue for the Mask Shrine puzzle
The Dreamer clue is the rule for the shrine. I read right and left from the Dreamer's perspective, not from my current camera angle.

This puzzle is not about guessing random mask slots. It is about setting the Sun and Earth masks into the Dreamer relationship, aligning the eclipse state, then pressing the Moon button.

For the full route, use the Mask Shrine Puzzle.

Secret facility and late cleanup

The secret facility belongs to the late cleanup route, not the first-hour route.

When Charles Bennett gives the route clue, the storage container behind Raven’s Nest uses:

129845

That route leads toward the secret facility and This Is No Office.

Dimhaven secret facility route and This Is No Office achievement
The secret facility is late enough that I treat it as cleanup, not as part of the opening route.

If I am trying to finish all achievements, I do this before committing to the final ending route.

Common mistakes I avoid

The biggest mistakes are small, not dramatic.

I avoid these:

  • leaving the first area without checking the photo list;
  • forcing the final Visa checkpoint before recovering the passport;
  • treating the kitchen cabinets puzzle as a simple left-to-right drawer count;
  • mixing the kitchen cabinet state with unrelated document or converter clues;
  • reading the Mask Shrine left/right clue from my camera angle instead of the Dreamer’s perspective;
  • finishing the game before cleaning up low-rate achievements such as A Keen Eye For Detail, True Zadbox Master, and This Is No Office.

Most of all, I do not turn every stuck moment into a full walkthrough problem. Dimhaven is easier when I isolate the current wall and solve that one chain.
